I looked up the specs and the N70 is not HSDPA compatible so that will be the reason.
Thanks! I was beginning to think I couldn't get an iPhone which would be reason to move to Brisbane I guess.

As mentioned before - NextG is Telstra-speak for 850MHz HSDPA (the 3.6mbps speed). 3G is Telstra-speak for 2100MHz UMTS (384kbps speed). The iPhone supports both frequencies.
The iPhone supports both "3G" and "NextG" (ie 2100MHz and 850MHz). If you buy an iPhone, it will pick up NextG and run at high speeds. If you already have a "3G" plan with Telstra, you get "NextG" access included.

Are there even any areas of Coverage that have 3G but not NextG? I doubt there are since it's a smaller network, so if there isn't then people don't need to even consider the existence of the 3G network, because they'll never even need to use it, and never been in an area where it's their only option.
For Coverage Maps:
-NextG coverage = iPhone 3G coverage where it will be 3G speeds.
-3G coverage = Coverage for some older phones where they can get slower 3G speeds.

I see a huge potential for Telstra to shit all over Optus and Vodafone here. If they can offer similar value to Optus, but offer more flexibility - ie. Let me pay for more data and fewer calls if that's what I want. Then they can play the largest coverage for both HSDPA and WiFI card and they've won. Copping a bit of a loss for better deals on iPhone will definitely be offset by the sheer number of adopters.

Seems Telstra shops are being kept in the dark... and haven't even read their own press release?!?!?!
I rang one today - to see if it was worthwhile me swapping my SIM today for a NextG SIM (current Telstra customer on GSM here)...
He said they weren't sure if their shop was getting any on the 11th...
are now taking a list of names to ring people (they only had 3 or 4 names taken so far)...
and it would be on the $80 plan?!?!?!!
sigh
another shop said also - they had no guarantee that they would get them Friday, nor how many...
but swapping a current SIM for NextG SIM would be easy on the day.

I told everyone all this before in previous posts that this was the case..
Most Telstra shops and Dealers are not going to get it on July 11.. they will wait for the second batch of iphones late July.
There will be 4,500 or so Iphones on launch day which will be shared between all T life stores.. this is certain and has been confirmed by our Dealer manager who is in charge of ALL dealers in Melbourne.
btw T life in Chadstone said they are just opening normal time 9am and first come first served... it worries me because they do not have a door.. its all open..the stores gonna be chaos... theyre gonna have to employ a lot of barriers..
ontop of all this Optusworld is probably gonna be open midnight which is next door.. so that corner of chadstone is gonna be riot atmosphere lolz cant wait

All the Optus customers will be at home resting with their new iPhones by the time TLife opens.

Does he / she have any idea on Telstra stocks / shops for Canberra then?
I also wandered into Domayne today... the Apple Aust guy in there was very helpful, and let me know that Domayne as Telstra dealer, have been given no idea if they will get the iPhones at all - but will be selling a heap of accessories.

Well, I couldn't get an iPhone, but I have an awesome case, a bluetooth headset, a dock, a few spare cords, so I'm happy.

I wish Telstra would hurry up and release their plan range - Optus have already beat them to it, and I thought Telstra wouldn't like those kind of guerilla tactics.
My concern is that the plan I'm already on (as no doubt you're on one too) is just fine, and that you and I will have get out of the current contract and restart a new one - just to get the iPhone.
This is not my intention, I'd rather buy it outright (happy to) and just continue on with my cap plan - it's perfect for running my business, and can't afford to pay out another plan JUST for the iPhone.
Let's hope they get their s**t together in the next 5 days.

I wish Telstra would just hurry up!
I really really want to get my iphone on Friday, but as I'm in Hobart I won't be holding my breath..., plus I'm going to have to resign a whole new contract unless they upgrade my current one and wipe out my old handset repayments (ok just bill me for my old handset repayments and no termination)
I'm starting to wonder what the point of registering our interest with them was when we are less than a week out and haven't heard anything
*Sigh* I'm so impatient!
