if they are as desperate to get it as they seem to be then i think they would have caved for that by now
My SE K800i only has 1 different button and a few extra themes compared with the generic k800i

Just had a thought...
Telstra recently offered a HipTop Slide on a $30 24 month contract, I copied the details here, It wouldn't surprise me if the iphone plans were similar.
For just $30 a month on a 24 month contract plus the cost of the hiptop® slide you get UNLIMITED*:
* Instant Messaging
* Web browsing
* Email
* Standard text messaging (SMS)
* Standard picture messaging (MMS)
Because the hiptop is also a phone, you get access to Telstra's great voice call rates for national calls to standard fixed and mobile numbers:
30c for every 30 seconds (or part) plus a 27c flagfall.
Telstra's Free 24/7 Bonus Option gives you 3 minutes of FREE talk time to one Telstra mobile or national fixed line number, and you can use it 24/7!^^
Also, with Telstra's upfront costs, are you allowed to pay those as PAYG fees each month? or do I have to pay my $400 for my 16Gb on the day??

but the $30 a month doesnt cover calls....
and the handset repayments are either $30 + a month extra or something like $700 (approx) outright.

When they say unlimited internet, they (according to what the salesman told me when I was thinking about buying one) mean internet that is filtered (images compresses, formatting stripped etc) through special servers of the manufacturers, it is by no means the sort of internet experience that the iPhone offers.

People....
I was only passing up the info to use as a guide as to what they "might" offer us.
Stopped off in a (licenced) Telstra store last night and manager told me no more info till the 11th, but most telstra plans that are already out will be available on the iphone, and there are no new "special" plans (which i don't believe) but the suggestion to look at their current stuff as a guide was a good idea, hence the hiptop.

The cost of 3's roaming data is exactly what Telstra charges them. There's no premium added by 3.

LOL!!! this is a great plan... but theres no chance that would be allowed with the iphone.
The reason the hiptop plan is unlimited data for $30 is that it runs on edge.. theres only so much you can do.,.. and you can't downl;oad anything directly from the hiptop.
With the Iphone.. it's gonna be running on NextG with Telstra.. with data speeds so high and it's an internet based phone.. unlimited data will jam the whole network or something

This may be slightly off topic but seeing as it is going to contain the words Telstra and iPhone it will probably get merged here anyway.
What is the difference between 3G & Next G?
If I go to telstra's website and look up 3G coverage in my area it give me 2 options:
3G and GSM coverage (of which there is none in my area)
and
NextG coverage (which is all over my area)
Now I have a new Nokia N70 which I only got a few months ago and I had to get a new 3G sim card for it. When I am on the Sunshine Coast it displays a normal icon under the signal bar but when I go to Brisbane it displays a 3G icon in it's place.
I assume that this is because we have no 3G coverage on the sunshine coast.
So if we have no 3G but supposedly have lots of NextG then what is the difference and will the iPhone work?

Telstra's NextG network operates on 850MHz.
Telstra's 3G Network operates on 2100MHz, just like most of Optus and Vodafone. Telstra don't have a very large 2100MHz network as 850 is cheaper and travels further with longer wavelength.
A Telstra iPhone would work on both of Big T's networks.

Next G is just Telstra's name for their 3G network. It's all just marketing.

3G is 2100mhz UTMS, NextG is 850mhz HDSPA. They're both '3G technologies', but UMTS is slower. It's really only there for people that don't have HSDPA enabled phones to get Videocalling and slightly faster data.
It's what 3 had when they first launched.
The iPhone will work on it, but since NextG has so much more coverage, you'll probably never end up using it.
I don't know if the 3G indicator on your N70 means you are on '3G' or NextG though, since they're both called 3G by everyone else (including Nokia), it could be anything. If your N70 is not a HSDPA phone (called NextG by Telstra) then the reason you aren't getting the 3G signal on the Sunshine Coast is because the phone cannot connect to the NextG network, but the iPhone will be able too.
