I guess you'll be able to 'reset' your contract and extend it for another 24 months, with the new iPhone (4G or whatever).
That, or upgrade your current 3G iPhone to the latest with/ without charges.

Couldn't they do what AT&T did? FREE upgrade to existing 2G iPhone contract holders? Oh wait...its Tel$tra we're talking about...

I was just about to get out of my shit Telstra contract for this very reason. On my $20 plan (which I got 2 years ago when I didn't use the phone much) has blown out to a touch under $50 a month. Now I have to think again. On their low plans $20/$30 /month the per 30c cost is highway robbery.
But free wi-fi.... (of course there will be a limit, but even so!)

I just checked Apple's site about providers for iPhone in Australia, and it's not even mentioning Telstra yet. I am guessing they just recently finalising the deal with Apple and can't wait to tell everyone about it.
I am not bashing Telstra, but based on their track record, the plans are not going to be as cheap as it seems to be. But I am glad at least Telstra is on it because they do have the widest coverage. Well, at least the T-life store in Melbourne won't be so boring after all.
Let's hope Optus and Vodafone come up with a better 3G data plan.
I am not fussed about Wifi, it is cool have it, but 3G is more than enough for me to check email, browse the web, tweet, watch a youtube video, and have my "push stuff" pushed to me.
I think the delays for Telstra to announce their iPhone plans is due to bigpond music (and creating their own iPhone App?) and iTunes music store. What wants Bigpond music anyway? They probably caved in when they heard how many people actually pre-registered through Optus and Vodafone. =D

Has anyone got any details on plan call pricing and data allowances? I've tried to call Telstra but I've been on hold for ages.
A few things worry me though:
- crappy data plans
- high call rates
- 24 month contract

very true but in anotha 12 months they will prob have that iphone even better so think on the up side and it is a 24 month contract and im sure call rates will be same as most telstra phones

Then why is it avaliable for nothing upfront in the UK with the beefier plans? :P
Hoping this hits Pre-Paid :-)

Sorry guys but what the heck are you all smoking????
I'm seeing all this "great plans Telstra!" written everywhere...
Correct me if I'm wrong but on the $30 you still have to pay the full upfront cost although it is good they haven't priced it on $70+ only
-They have not announced what the $30 gets you in calls
-They have not announced what the call rates will be
-They have not announced what/if any data is included or what the data cost will be
So how can you POSSIBLY make any analysis as to whether the plans are any good???
It's great news indeed as it will help competition but let's not get carried away...we know very little with the most crucial detail (THE DATA!!) missing!

Carry two phones?
That's the point of having an iPhone though, so you don't carry an iPod around with you as well (extra).
If you're going down that path, you might as well pay the outright price (whatever that is).

No Mobile Foxtel on the iPhone-unless Telstra comes up with a app to stream and display its channel selections on the iPhone.

End your blog site Three and announce a date now.

From what I understand, 3 desperately want the iPhone but there's something holding it back between them and Apple.

lol
suffice to say, i like my free texts with Optus, if they dont release decent prices it will be hard to say goodbye

Steve doesn't like the number '3'. They must change their company name.
I made that up.

You'll need to open your eyes on the iPhone as it is touch driven. Predictive text is good, but not that good!

No one's said anything but the only reason Apple wouldn't give it to them is if they wanted their custom shit on there.

Free wi-fi for me is the real game changer. No-one else can offer anything to compare with Telstra's coverage in CBD and inner suburbs on that, and it mitigates against data costs. Very very clever move
