Competition is a great thing.
How about, $99 upfront, $30 a month... 24 months, 8GB black. I'm hoping (but I doubt it!). They might just break even.

I'm guessing it was just someone who didn't know what they were talking about thinking they'd be the same as normal phone plans.
Whatever is in the press release or on their website is all Telstra wants us to know.

Give them a call and hear it and confirm what I was told. 1800iphone

$99 upfront? ridiculous! Steven himself said it shouldn't be more (and less) than $199. And yesm you are dreaming. But yes, competition is a great thing.

No more and no less than $199 (USD)? Max and min at the same time?
I'm just dreaming, about how Vodafone and Optus can counter this move, strategically/financially.

LOL. I meant that it should roughly the same in USD. So it shouldn't be less, but it shouldn't be much more. The window of costs shouldn't stray from USD$199, but that's all in "theory". The conversion rate and then the obligatory 30% market on all Apple products sold here has to be taken into account. It's ludicrous, considering our Aussie dollar almost at parity with the US greenback.

Exactly right here.
That is why, $199 USD being about $205 AUD, plus 30% markup, is roughly the asking price of $279 upfront (8GB model).

This looks like their normal plans, which especially at the $30 end are incredibly expensive. However the Vodafone/Optus $49 cap plans are very good value in comparison. Chuck in some data usage into those caps and you have very good competition.
But they will definitely need to have something at the 49 price point at least. No more 70 minimum plan.
I'm so happy.

I'll also be happy with a 49 plan IF there is minimum data thrown in...or maybe a cap of 49 for 70+ worth of calls/text?
I'm on a $29 cap that gives me $75 worth of calls/text. Which is ample.

This is serious Three, Look at the amount of posts on your blog.
I think the game would be best won if Three just announced the launch date for the iphone on Three with a killer plan and people will think twice about jumping ship.
If not, Three are about to loose a lot of customers for 2 years.
End your blog site Three and announce a date now.

Free Telstra wi-fi is bloody awesome! The Melbourne CBD is covered in it - My iPhone picks up a Telstra CBD hot spot almost everywhere I hang out in the CBD.
NextG coverage & capacity = awesome
Has anyone got any details on plan call pricing and data allowances? I've tried to call Telstra but I've been on hold for ages.
A few things worry me though:
- crappy data plans
- high call rates
- 24 month contract
I really don't want to be on a 24 month contract? What if Apple brings out a new phone in 12 months? Then I'm stuffed because I want the latest iPhone *always*.

I hate 24 month contracts.
Telstra data charges suck.
Otherwise I'm glad Telstra are on board because NextG is the best network.
