My understanding is the Yes Optus stores are Company stores.
I will find out and report back.
I am off to the Yes Shop closest to me - even as we speak!

Technically there are only three "company stores" directly owned by Optus - one each in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. But the rep MizuInOz spoke with was probably referring to Optus World/yes Shop locations, rather than Telechoice etc.
I will be very interested to see how this goes, but I suspect it won't work.

This is where things get a little shakey. I've spoken to 3 different Strathfield people this week. All will accept a fully refundable $50 deposit, none will guarantee a iPhone on release day and all are unsure as to how many they are getting in on the day.
One guy told me if he gets more than 10 requests for deposits to notify his Head Office so "they can buy more". Oh, and they won't be opening early like the Optus World stores.
hmmmm.....

You might have to look at which Telstra stores are company stores and which are franchises. In the Sydney City, the T[Life] store and the store in World Square. In the upper north shore, the Macquarie Centre store is a company store, but the Hornsby store is a franchise. The company stores have employees that know much more as they are trained better.

I never said it was small, just not in a very apple minded populated area. Our store is owned by several bigger stores.

Returning from scouting operation, Kimosabe...
OK...
Went to local Yes Optus store - only "COMPANY" store is the one in the CBD. All others are franchises.
The "Yes" store employees for Brisbane had an iPhone training session today and were told that the people with reservations (deposits) are to be admitted ahead of the cue - stores open at 9AM but some may have extended closing hours.
Just because you are #1 in the cue does not mean you will get a phone! There is no guarantee that all of the "franchise" stores will have iPhones; and if they do, there is no guarantee that you will get the iPhone (16 Gb White / Black) that you want. No one in the store (including the mgr.) knew anything about allocation or plan or pricing.
What I was told tho is that you can buy the iPhone outright - no plan. Hmmmm. Interesting. BUT (and a big but it was) I think we are re-entering the rumour mill again.
I will go to the Brissie CBD and check it out tomorrow and let ch'yall know!
Keep breathing!

Optus have *three* company owned stores. Count 'em. three. One in Melbourne, One in Sydney, One in Brisbane.
The Call Centre obviously still doesn't know what's going on, cause no one's told them either. They do have franchised Optus World stores though. If these are included, the spread will be bigger, but still limited (ed no Allphones or the like)
*edit*
oops damn you tcn. you're too quick off the mark

Company Stores - OPTUS
This may be the locations..
BUT I am only guessing:
https://personal.optus.com.au/web/oc...&site=personal
It does give three primary stores that offer help to foreigners who have difficulties... no replaced plane tickets but some nice things just the same...
And it confirms previous comments...
And has been said, all of this can be taken with a:
ah hem - a grain of salt...
