And line up to join AT&T's incredibly expensive plans? The only good thing with them is that you can get unlimited data for $30, though of course I bet that unlimited means a couple of GB at the most. No SMS are included in the base rate, only voice so to SMS people you have to pay extra, at least out here you can mix and match with your $70 a month and not have to pay extra. And their 3G coverage isn't flash hot, no where near 99% of NextG, and yet you still pay the same rate for data if you are on EDGE or 3G.
You'd have to be either incredibly rich, or stupid, to line up in the US for the iPhone.

I'm hoping I can order the iPhone in advance on the Optus website and have it delivered to me on the 11th. This is how I've always got my Optus phones in the past. Fingers crossed that they offer this option.

The total cost of ownership for the 3G iPhone vs. the iPhone in the US is around US$40 more. If I was in the US, I would line up for it. The new features make up for that small amount of money.

Re the midnight store sales - yes, they may be able to sell you an iPhone at midnight, but can they activate the service in their network at that time or do you have to wait later in the morning for a working service?
Don't large corporate systems go offline for back-ups and batch job processing in the wee hours??
Not sure how this will work?

Expensive? They are the best plans the iPhone has for calls that I've seen. $40/month for 450 minutes during the day and 5000 for nights and weekends...

Guess what? Optus just received a free loan of $8M for 4 weeks! With current market rate, they just picked up $57k in interest for nothing.

Optus didn't take 80,000 $100 deposits.

Is Next Byte selling the iPhone as a Telstra Reseller. Am going to the shop to ask tomorrow, but if you know, you could save me the trip.

May I politely say your friend is full of crap...
ONLY Optus Company stores will be selling the iPhone on opening day.
I just had a VERY long conversation with Optus. They have a special group who answers iPhone questions.
I am a business customer and get some sometimes priority care - sometimes.
So I asked about when and where and how I can get the two 16 G iPhones (one black and one white) on 11 July;
Go to your closest Optus Company store - do not go to a reseller they will not have any - give them your pre-registration pre-purchase details (number 30 transaction actually means something, gang) and you will heave them reserved with your name and number on the boxes. Then show up - walk in - ahead of the steaming masses - and do the deed.
So, I am going to a local shop and talking to the mgr and confirming all of this and I will get back to all and everyone.
Cheers.

Remember that Optus also stated that someone with an invoice of #5 has no priority over someone with that of #5000.

We'll see. Not saying that you are full of shit, but at the end of the day everything that everyone is saying on this forum is only speculation.
We may both be full of shit. I think we should all take what we are reading with a grain of salt. We can all beleive it when the plans have offically been released by means of a press release.
Until then f*&k it. Who cares. So far not a single post on here can be backed un with hard evidence. We are all guessing.

So how do I determine which are "Optus Company" stores?
Do you mean go to any store that is branded as Optus rather than say a Telechoice or similar?
