AT&T Offers Walkthrough Videos for iPhone 3G Buying - Mac Rumors

AT&T are letting customers go in for the credit check and number porting ahead of time to save time on the actual launch day. Here's hoping our carriers do the same.

Can you imagine what a shite fight it'll be in the US on the day if they take 15 minutes per customer to sign up for a new phone? Wow, talk about needing riot police.

I think there is going to be a LOT of disappointed people come Saturday morning. Stock sounds severely limited vs the amount of people that want one. I expect I'll be missing out.

AT&T have announced the iphone will go on sale at 8am on the 11th, so there goes the 6pm thing.

Apple stores won't be selling them in Australia. The Web Store quite clearly re-directs to Vodafone and Optus (although not Telstra yet?). If you ask Apple about the iPhone in Australia they tell you to talk to Optus or Vodafone.

And yes, Optus have stopped taking pre-registrations as their entire first allocation of phones has been "pre-registered". On a side note, staff got no preferential treatment and had to join the queue like everyone else at Optus. At least they're treating everyone equally (staff and customers).

I have an invoice number sub 1700 so I reckon I'm in with a pretty good chance, and for anyone who didn't read the fine print well on that holding deposit, it will automatically be refunded within 5 days of the phone going on sale. You'll simply get the credit back to the card you charged it to.

So it doesn't look like Apple are imposing any opening times for this one. I guess it'll come down to what time they ship the phones to the stores. 12:01 seems possible, but if supplies are limited, Optus may simply choose to ship it to their shops or licensed shops (They only have two company owned shops as far as I know, the rest of the Optus World stores are all under franchise).

It would be nice... in the same way that winning the lotto would be nice... if for those of us who coughed up a deposit for Optus got an email with a webform, asking us which Optus outlet, and what color and size iPhone we wanted. Then we could turn up at our chosen Optus outlet at 6am or whatever and pick up our phone, then get taken off the list.
And if you didn't make it early, your iPhone goes back into general stock. Not exactly a preorder as we weren't promised one, but workable.

All this iphone stuff is doing my head in.

I'm scouring the internet, jumping from post to post, reading that someone's mate overheard something from someone who might know etc

The pre-registration system is so stupidly flawed as me, like a bazillion others, have (blindly) pre-registered for all 3 carriers. Optus are automatically giving you the $100 back so, even that really offers no commitment either way as we haven't even seen the plans.

This can't be some well thought out marketing plan to keep us all in the dark.

I know I'm going to be really pissed if I can't my hands on an iphone within a day or 2 of the launch.

Surely someone (apple/optus/vodaphone/telstra) could just put us out of our misery and let us know the real quantities of iphones that we'll have in 9 days time. FFS someone MUST know!

The way I see it? companies can put up registrations/deposits/blogs/sms portals/whatever.. Australia IS STILL in the dark when it comes to the iPhone, the carriers are, hell even Apple Australia would be.. You fucking look at AT&T on how they're getting shit ready (read up on Mac Rumors: Apple Mac Rumors and News You Care About as a great example).

Having said all that, Telstra has at least officially mentioned plans/prices.. which doesn't put much faith into Optus or Vodafone for now, until they announce plans.. probably will on 11th July...

Im having a rant as I'm getting sick of these threads about the iPhone's release.. Okay yes I'm excited about it coming, and I amongst many of you will try to get one on the first day. But we can't do anything till they announce it.. Lining up and talking about lining up as much as it's fun as fiction :P

Yeah I'm having a bit of a shitter of a morning.. and I really have little faith in the carriers that we'll hear ANYTHING from voda or optus or even apple this week.

You should do what I did last week. Went away for 4 days, to get away from it all and relax.

I took my family to Sydney.... everywhere you turned there were iPhone posters, phone stores, Apple Stores, blah blah blah....

I talked to 10 different Optus and Vodafone stores. I got 10 different responses to the same questions.

More rumour.... but I just rang several local Vodafone stores. No further information, but the guy did say they were having "a big meeting" this Friday so all the staff would be updated on plans etc. He's part of the Digicall network who seem to have a lot of the Vodafone stores around here.

So, doesn't look promising for anything this week. Maybe another late Friday email job...
