If what the OP wrote is true, and the rumor spreads (ie. first preorder customers in, best dressed), then Chaddy is looking at a meltdown as everyone heads there.
At least the 11th is a late night trade, so there will only be people around the empty stores for 3 hours... but the potential for confusion (and anger?) as non-preorder people get in line only to be turned away is great.
IMHO, they'd be much better to handle the first batch by online signups and courier deliveries to preorder customers, in invoice number order. No point opening stores for this one, since there won't be enough stock to cater to everyone that joins the queue.

Vodafone will be calling people some time next week, in order of registering their interest for the iPhone, to sign people up. I spoke to Vodafone on Friday and was told this. He said that they could provide a courier for the phone...but I said that I want it on the 11th and he said that they will be accommodating and I will be be able to nominate a store for pickup.

He said that the deposit was only valid for "Yes Optus" and "Optus World" stores.
Resellers could choose weather of not they honour the deposit"
Which I have, so that kinda sucks.
But we should all remember that the optus deposit didn't gaurentee you a phone.
Just service 2 hours before people without.

I think the same about Mt Druitt, for some reason I don't think there are that many people out here that could afford one.
As my partner says to me all the time, we're the Packers of Mt Druitt.

They do midnight launches more often than you might think. Mostly for things like game consoles. Generally they seem to just close off the built in fences that are already there to herd people out at closing time and put a couple of the ever present bored security guards near the bit they don't want people to leave. All the stores have their own security grilles so it wouldn't matter even if you did wander off.
Nothing to it really.
If you've ever been there after closing it's amazing just how empty the place feels. They'd have no trouble finding you unless you were actively hiding but what would be the point? As soon as you came out again security wouldn't have any trouble finding you.

OK, they may od it for consoles and the logistics may be in place as far as security screen BUT at some point someoen will be saying "how many iPhones have you got is stock to sell at midnight"
I am tipping there would be few, certainly not enough to justify a midnight opening

yeah.
all it promised you was that you got it 2hrs before everyone else....
theoretically enabling you to have a gurantee of getting one.
only problem is; what happens if everyone that pre-ordered ends up at the same city store.... hardly able to get one then is you have another 1000ppl waiting for one as well..
[1000 = used for persuasive puposes]

Take it with a grain of salt, but someone either on here or Macrumors said that it was closed because Optus received more than 80 000 pre-registers.

Midnight opening for iPhone 10th
Hi Guys and Gals,
Please dont shoot me if this has been posted already.
I just called a dozen Vodafone stores to see if they will open midnight on the 10th for the iPone launch. Neither store could give me a definite yes or no.
Does anyone know of a store that'll open at midnight on the 10th?
Regards,
Spidey

We won't shoot you, but you did use the forum search before posting right?
No one has confirmed anything yet - you'll certainly know when they do.
