Personally, I doubt the iPhone will go on sale in the Apple Store on contract, simply because the staff would need to be trained in how to access customer accounts and run credit checks and have knowledge of the appropriate communications acts.
Having said this, I also doubt the phone companies sending any reps to the Apple Store to sell the iPhone there, only because they'll be busy enough in their own stores selling the phone.

I'll also show up wherever Optus tells me to and whenever they say to. But I can pretty much guarantee it won't be another cold night out on George St again.

Who said it was coming out at midnight? I doubt it. More like 7am.

I hope that they will have it in a Chatswood store so that I can be there early and get home in ten mins to play with it.

wow.. i had just assumed the Apple store would be selling it.. my plan up until i read this thread was to line up outside the Apple store a couple of hours before it opens (weather that be midnight or normal business hours)

it didn't even occur to me that they won't have it..

if not, i guess i will have more of an idea in the next couple of weeks when and where i will get it from as more details are announced...

What if Apple imposes that 6pm Launch like the first iPhone launch, then all of our theories are blown out!

O2 will be selling it from 7:02 AM.

If the Sydney Apple store is selling it I'll go there, they'll probably have the most stock too.

I don't know what Optus/Vodafone store I'll go to, probably the biggest one I can get to so there's plenty of stock.

If it opens at 6pm, I'll probably get there 2pm/3pm. If it opens at Midnight I'll go around 8/9, if it opens 7am/8am I'll show up around 4/5ish.

I don't really want to line up, but if the stock is going to be as low as we've been hearing I guess I'll have too. I'd prefer to just go on the 12th and pick up my phone, but I doubt that's possible.

I'm just been on the phone with the Optus store in Chadstone Shopping Centre. The guy a spoke to advised me that they will be launching the iPhone 3G at 12:00AM on July 11th (as in 11:59pm on the 10th). He also said that they will most likely be the only Optus Store in Melbourne to do this.
He also said that if you've made a reservation through the Optus website (before it was closed), you have priority queuing but he stressed that it does not guarantee you an iPhone and since 50,000 people nation wide reserved iPhone's, we'll have to be queuing all day.

Looks like I'm gonna have to find a queuing buddy

EDIT: Also, I forgot. He said if you're invoice number is number 5 you have no priority queuing over someone with an invoice number of 505.
