Canadian iPhone Plans Announced

The only iPhone carrier in Canada, Rogers, has announced its iPhone plans.

Source: MacRumors, MacRumors source.

All have unlimited Visual Voicemail.

C$60 (A$61.76): 150 minutes + unlimited evenings/weekends, 400 MB Data, 75 SMS sent
C$75 (A$77.17): 300 minutes + unlimited evenings/weekends, 750 MB Data, 100 SMS sent
C$100 (A$102.87): 600 minutes + unlimited evenings/weekends, 1 GB Data, 200 SMS sent
C$115 (A$118.30): 800 minutes + unlimited evenings/weekends, 2 GB Data, 300 SMS sent

Those don't seem like that great plans, quite low number of minutes, and only 75 SMS's for $60?

Thankfully we have competition here.

You forgot the best part, unlimited incoming SMS' (assuming this means what I think it means and I'm not reading this incorrectly).

Yeah... I thought I could leave that one out. Please forgive me.

Even Telstra allows UNLIMITED incoming SMSs on all plans. Aren't Telstra great?

In the US you are charged for both sending and receiving SMS. Unless things have changed of late.

i thought that was only calling. No wonder email via mobiles is becoming more popular! just like in japan. Push email will totally change this too!

and then there are the additional charges on top of the plan. At&t charge regulatory compliance fees, universal service fees and more. Quite a surprise on my first bill! Of course these charges are ignored when comparisons are made with Aust plans.

Plus the At&t activation fee of about $30. Also ignored in pricing comparisons.

Posting on mactalk.mobi hence additional post rather than edit.

that is thievery! incoming calls and sms are counted, and charges are per minute!

Rogers make Telstra look rational (almost). The sad thing is, these packages are a lot cheaper than what Rogers have offered to date for similar capabilities.

It's always been the way in Canada. There is little to no competition in Canada.
Of course now the naysayers may finally understand why MMS was not included in the iPhone. Not everyone has the same system as us.
On the upside though, their mobile system does have it's benefits. For example if you are calling a landline within the same region as you, it's billed at a flat rate for the entire call.
Also you don't have to pay for local calls from the landline.

IIRC it varies by carrier. Some charge (for example) 10c to send but receiving an SMS is free, whereas some charge 5c to send and 5c to receive. I think the carriers were moving from the former to the latter about two years ago.

OMG the data plans are disgusting!! we need atleast 4 gigdata minimum. we better not get stung like they did.
Nothing can compare to their call charges though. They get unlimited talk on weekends.. and im pretty sure after 8pm everynight they get freetime but daymm....
I expected a little better from Rogers..

"They are also offering a $15 monthly value pack which includes Call Display, WhoCalled, Caller Ring Trax, 2,500 Sent Text Messages and 2,500 Call Forwarding Minutes"

I sure do love paying $15 a month for caller ID.

Holy damn.
