This dude hates Apple and makes a living out of bagging it? Opinions are like A'holes... everybody has one.

Rebuttal?

Your article doesn't seem so much a rebuttal as a geek's reasoning why things aren't necessary or required. I'm no iPhone or Blackberry customer, but I would have expected a little more emphasis on why the iPhone stacks up better than the Blackberry rather than rubbishing what is on Blackberry. An example is the "iPods don't have replaceable by customer batteries and there's not been a lot of problems in that area (or words to that effect"). Are you serious? I've had, and so have my friends, multiple issues with dud batteries, and to say its a minor matter is seriously understating the problem.

This will now bring down the wrath of the Mac community on my head, but sometimes it would be refreshing to read of Apple's shortcomings, and there are a number, than the old "if you don't like it don't buy it" rant. Childish.

Just to pick you up on this point, the blackberry does support HTML email message viewing, though admittedly it was only made available recently.

Good rebuttals or not. The thing about flash is well summarised by John Gruber here

Quote:
But the whole thing is moot because there isn’t any other phone with a web browser even nearly as good as the iPhone’s that also supports Flash. The iPhone without Flash only compares badly against an imaginary iPhone with Flash, not any actual existing competing phone.
Whether you think Flash is a must have browser experience or not - its not an option. The fact is the browser experience is good enough that you think about wanting flash.

I happen to also agree with the view that Flash is not a starter as Apple has learnt from their previous mistakes. Flash with Adobe's 3rd way of interface look/feel/behaviour will water down the iPhone UI.

If Apple have any serious intention of enforcing their IP on the iPhone not having Flash may well be a pre-condition to firing off the cease and desist, if not being sure of winning in a court room.

I suspect that the fact Apple can go from non player to standard setter in a mere 19 months, with just 12 months of actual sales must be making other manufacturers and more importantly telco's a bit nervous. Apple have demonstrated that they are not wedded to any particular model to sell handsets, this changes the rules established over the last 20 odd years. Sure they have played the party line this time, but you can bet that they have learnt from their dealings with the music industry and will give the telco's absolutely nothing that can be used against Apple.

It's all interesting and Decryption indulging in a bit of "gee you think thats a defect" is hardly blind fanboi-ism.

On MMS I asked the 7 people on a course with me today how much they used MMS and was asked what's MMS? Then once I explained they went oh that - thats really annoying when it gets sent and why would you bother - then followed a conversation on how hard it was to get a decent phone without a camera.

As for MegaPixels- Optics are still more important than MP and optics for a device that stays in your pocket is never going to work. Camera's are the alternative use, its handy sometimes feature.

I assume decryption that you have used a "polished turd". I have had an iphone since august of last year and managed to play with the "polished turd" of a diamond. Its no iphone, but it will give the other competitors a run for their money.

I don't need to use the HTC Diamond to know it will be a bad phone, because beneath all that "design" (I use the term design loosely, they just slapped on a theme), it's a Windows Mobile phone - hence, it's rubbish.

I've actually used an iPhone for a few months as my sole mobile phone (I'm guessing Mr. Warne has not)
So you're quite happy to have a go at Dan Warne because you assume he hasn't used an iPhone, yet you totally dismiss the Diamond even though you haven't used it. I've used a Windows Mobile that has SBD Mobile Shell 2 running, and it totally transforms the device. Not to the same level as the UI on the iPhone, but a big improvement over the standard UI.

A good journalist can write about any subject objectively, and use facts to back up his or her's argument. Your basis of a rebuttal against Mr Warne is based on a presumption that Dan has never used an iPhone. Do you really know if he hasn't decryption?

Who said I'm a journalist? Or a good one? I'm just a dude who loves his iPhone and knows for a fact Windows mobile devices suck (I've used enough of them).
