Oh and I can't watch Live TV on the iPhone, I mean, there's so much good quality stuff on TV and my PVR may miss recording it.

unlike here on forums emoticons are a vital part of the communication.
emoticons are part of the language.. not just a way to express sentiment.

but they dont do they.. they use emoticons which is really just a very simple ideogram.. and as the japanese language is all about ideograms.. it is a natural modern extension of writing....

Reason: It doesn't my lifestyle and needs.
I don't need a handset with a touchscreen. I don't need a phone that plays music.
I like to keep my handset in my back pocket so a touchscreen could be damaged. Phones on your belt isn't cool nor practical. A phone in the front pocket - I have concerns about radiation shall we say.
Overall the iPhone just doesn't suit what I do with my mobile phone.

I'd love an iPhone but unless a provider can provide 3G service for it where I live then it's probably not going to happen.
Optus 900MHz 3G won't work on it, Vodafone won't be covering this area (even with their planned extensions) and Telstra haven't gotten the iPhone yet.

Because there's no rush: iPhone is just yet another phone that I have admired, but not bought. And like those other phones, the initial demand is huge, and then the price starts to come down when the initial demand is satisfied. As with the initial phone, the early adopters pay a higher price. And on a 24 month plan, that is a cost that keeps costing, for 24 months.
I general I try not to buy consumer products that are in fierce demand.
The other reason is I find the touch screen keyboard to be flawed: I have to continually switch attention between the keyboard, and the resulting text. It's good to visit my wife's iPhone, but I couldn't use it full time yet.
My current phone is a Palm Centro, which to be honest, feels like Windows 3.1, compared to the iPhone. But I like the keyboard, the usable calendar, and the todo list.
I can see myself using an iPhone in the future: When the platform matures, when the price drops, or if I received one as a gift.

The gods have conspired to not allow me to get one (probably).
I want one but am going on exchange to the UK in late September until mid-June next year. So, would have to get it in the UK, but obviously won't be there long enough to justify an 18month contract. Pre-paid is an option but then there are questions about whether I can bring it back to Australia and use it on a plan here. If anyone has any suggestions please tell me lol.

Because it's much better to get colon cancer than a heart condition? How is copping radiation to the bum gonna be any different to copping radiation to the chest?
edit: I'm guessing you meant front pants pocket. I can see your point there...

1. Just changed plans
2. Plan is on 3, which doesn't carry iPhone (yet)
3. Would only get one on a $49 plan (even if I have to pay an extra $10 a month)
