8GB or 16GB iPhone for me?
I am trying to get an feel for which model iPhone to go with.
I wont be keeping lots of videos on there, perhaps a couple of hours worth that I will remove when I have watched them, things like Top Gear or similar. I have a 4GB mini which has served me well in terms of capacity.
I will use iCal probably +- 10 entries per day. I wont keep all the emails that I have on the laptop on the iPhine and I am not a huge user of email.
Pictures I would like to have a couple of hundred or so on there at the best resolution the screen can use, no need to keep them in them in RAW either.
So what do you reckon I need space wise 8GB or 16GB?

I think it all depends on price. If the rumoured Domayne Screenshot outright price are correct, I think I'm only going for 8gb as $300 for another 8gb is daylight robbery, but then (hopefully) those prices aren't correct.
If getting on a contract and the prices are in line with the US prices, then you'd have to be nuts not to get a 16gb.

8gb.
The thing that uses the most space is videos and music, if you fit all your music onto your 4gb mini, and you're not going to have a heap of video then the 8gb sounds perfect.

It certainly does lose something in translation (via Google Translate service)

Ps. I'd go with 8Gb under your circumstances, unless of course you can afford more. If you can - get the larger one. It will last you longer and be worth more at resell as well I'd guess.

I am going to get a 16gb, as I have a lot of vodcasts I watch, and especially with the app store you want lots of space.
But for you, if you are managing with a 4gb, then 8gb should probably do. Then again if you are planning to watch more vodcasts with the bigger screen you might want to upgrade to the 16gb...
Maybe you should add a poll?

If you're not using it for much media content (music, movies, pics, etc) then you might get away with the 8GB model. Then again, my rule of thumb is to always get as much space as you can afford. Who knows, you might want a bunch of apps from the App Store.

I don't think it depends on price as much as it does on what you need. When iPhone EDGE first came out with 4 and 8GB models I was at ends on which to get. There was all sorts of misinformation floating around the web citing *rubbish* subtle differences between the two. I did some research and found that there was absolutely NO difference between them apart from the storage capacity and I was looking at an additional $100USD or so for another 4GB on the same device. I opted for the 4GB model and to this date have 1.2GB still free on it!! I don't want my whole music library on there anyway, and having only my favourite tracks and movie clips is fine by me.
In iTunes I just tick and untick tracks that I want to listen to on my iPhone and I've never had to worry about space. Don't fall in to the marketing hype of getting the 'best' model if you are paying for something you are not going to use.
My boss recently asked me to help her purchase a Dell Laptop and on the specs screen she went "ooh for only another $100 I can upgrade this and that and this". I had to stop her becuase before I knew it she'd spend another $400 on things she wasn't going to need such as a GFX card and 320GB of storage! She wanted the laptop for DVDs and Email.

This is true. Especially seeing as some 3d games could quite easily take up 2gb of space with all the resources required to make them hum along and look fantastic.

IMO it's like the imac, if you can get the 24" then get that one. In the long run you will appreciate the difference that you get for paying a premium with some of these products (in this case extra space which translates to more flexibility).
I'm looking forward to the app store and can see some applications (the ones i would purchase anyway) taking up lots of space.
The photo size is really irrelevant as they don't seem to take up much room regardless of their quality.
