The iPhone, when looking at that comparison, is not at all too expensive (unless you think all those phones are all too expensive, which they probably are), and in fact, quite cheap.

Wonder why its $300 extra for the 16GB, especially that it's only an extra $100 for the contracted version.

As *awesome* as this would be, I think even though it's pre-paid, it will still be locked to the network you buy it from. Optus and Vodafone do this practically all their phones now (Nokia, Motorola etc.). Good thing is, most Optus pre-paid phones work fine on Virgin as they use the same network

Ugh, I know. I posted a bit different on twitter and I should've known better. I meant to say time to find a way to unlock.

I wouldn't have a problem if I was able to buy a Voda prepaid iPhone (8GB!) and remain locked to Voda.
Or if they unlocked me after 6 months for free or something. Or never? I'm a loyal customer.

These are just placeholders - the product code for the 16gb black AND white is the same in the screenshot.

Holy Crap,
I was wondering around the Internet and came across this:
-----------------------------------
System disk name: BigBear5A331.M68OS
System disk key: 3d9a9832a108fc5084fc9329d6e84e38edf06e380554c49376 b70e951f8a8d1ed943f819
Baseband version: 04.05.04_G
Baseband status: patched and unlocked
iPhone 3G baseband firmware prefix: ICE2 version 1.43
user root and user mobile still have alpine as password.
ALL CARRIERS SUPPORTED AS OF NOW:
Carrier Country
ATT US
Claro ar
One at
TMobile at
Optus au
Telstra au
Vodafone au
Mobistar be
...
-----------------------------------
I'm interested in this bold bit. I don't think it's fake because ziphone's blog isn't Australian.
And since Domanye deals with only Telstra, we maybe seeing Telstra offering iPhones too.
Any comments?

What about the dash?
Yeah I mentioned that before and it might just be a placeholder for the codes once they get them.

While they probably are placeholders I think I've shown that they aren't far off what it will cost.
Also note that the $100 extra on the subsidised version is a subsidised $100 more, which doesn't mean it will only be $100 more than the 8GB outright version. If the outright 16GB version is $699, that's 3.5 times the subsidised price, so if you times the $100 difference by 3.5 it's $350 making a total unsubsidised version $1049 which is more expensive than the rumoured outright price of the 16GB.

Interesting that 3 isn't on that list, and unfortunate.
You say that it's off the ziPhone blog? Link please.

if these are the true prices i would rather get a 16GB version from the states and pay the non activation fee. It will more than likely come under $1000.

It's down for some reason.
I'll post the link ASAP.
EDIT:
This site has a copy of it:
Firmware 2.0 Beta7 Unlocked! | iPhone Tricks
I think ziPhone is going under maintanence, because I can access bits and pieces from the blog.
This article is new (made today!)

And how do you plan on doing that? Considering they wouldn't sell it to you at all without a US credit card and address, not to mention that you'll probably have a very hard time getting it unactivated. Also, if you use someone like PriceUSA, I doubt they'd do it for you. They're not going to sign themselves up for contracts, wait 30 days and make you pay the penalty, then send you the phone. And another thing, how do you know the penalty won't be around $700AUD, which would bring you up to $1000 + Shipping + PriceUSA charge.
Maybe you didn't think it through?
