this is already been covered in the now closed Optus iphone pricing threads, please go have a look there, short answer no... but lets not go down that path again of debate wether this is fair or not.

Alright, I can't be bothered to see if it was mentioned somewhere in the 11 pages.. but apparently those product codes are wrong.. someone I know who works at an Apple reseller (I'll keep nameless), uses those codes or similar all the time to gauge supply on new/upcoming items.
So the pricing could just be an estimate template as well

Perhaps, but I still think they're spot-on. The higher price is similar to an earlier report of $950. The prices are comparable to other unlocked smartphones. And they're still a lot less than what the Europeans have been paying for unlocked iPhones.

The Harvey Norman/Domayne system has many flaws, in particular as you can see the listing for the iphone is 'white' in colour, this means it was created locally (by that store). Often done to facilitate pre-orders, it means that corporately they have no pricing as yet and it is probably a 'best guess' by a salesperson at that particular store. You will also note the - (dash_ at the end of the product code, which also indicates it is probably a guess at the actual code too.

My brother in law has just signed up for the Virgin $60 3G and WiFi internet deal
Unlimited local and national calls to land lines and Virgin mobiles and 2GB of data
So what makes this different to what an iPhone would use?
So why cant an iPhone be on a similar plan?

1. Virgin are not selling it.
2. Is your brother in law getting a high end, brand new, highly anticipated mobile phone for that price?
3. the Iphone 3G is not a landline. This deal, unless I'm getting the really wrong end of the wedge does not include mobile phone calls (as a mobile phone).

Lutze, there are no upfront fees
It has a sim card in it and is on the 3G network (as in it is essentially a mobile phone)
It has a WiFi router built into it.
You plug your land line phone inot it and use the 3G network to make unlimited local and national calss and calls to Virgin mobiles, so in effect you are making mobile calls to land lines and mobiles(virgin)
EDIT, the iPhone has an upfront fee that would cover a fair part of the cost difference of the Virgin broadband box to the iPhone

I really don't think that screenshot is accurate given the AUD100 jump from an 8GB to a 16GB iPod Touch. The two models are the same machine simply with more storage.

You are comparing lemons and limes (sorry, I have to get away from Apple somehow!) with this set up. We all would like the iPhone to be affordable, it's just unrealistic, in my view, to think that the networks are not going to try to screw everyone for every last cent they think they can wring out of us.

Telstra was actually in the final stages of negotiation, however for apple, the sticking point was Telstra's insistance that they have the sensis portal pre-loaded on the machine.
Apple said nah huh.
Telstra said yeah huh.
Apple replied with a more forcefull Nah Huh, to which Telstra gave Apple the rasberry and wandered away. I would imagine that this would have been all loaded into the system before the final negotiations broke down.
I wonder just how much Telstra will live to regret this?

Does anybody think the price will decrease on Outright (or ebay atleast etc)? Quite often 6 months after a new phone comes out, it becomes $50-100 cheaper or whatever. Is the iPhone one of these, or will it never de-value?
