Unhappy Am I Left in the Dark?

I live in South west rocks on the midnorth coast of nsw (near kempsey). We have great GSM coverage from vodafone and optus, no 3g but i dont care about 3g as much as some of you guys do, my question is does Optus have GPRS in its GSM areas (Their coverage maps don't differentiate between gsm and gprs) and will the iPhone3G work with GPRS? And will the GPS feature use data?

thanks,
ryan.

I am pretty sure Optus has GPRS.

And I am pretty sure the iPhone 3G has GPRS (and EDGE).

The original does, why shouldn't the 3G?

And I am pretty sure GPS uses data.

3G phones will default downwards to maintain a connection, in fact, I read that you can turn 3G off in the iPhone to save power. I don't use 3G at all, its too dear & not worth the effort.

Yeah iPhone 3G supports GSM and GPRS, if there's GSM then there's GPRS, but it's gonna be really slow.
