I've heard a few things today. Obviously I can't say anything specific, possibly rendering me a baseless rumourmonger to some.
Needless to say, upfront costs to get the phone on a plan will be comparable (in $Aud) to what Steve said. The plans will likely be quite competitive and reasonably priced. Not for the teenagers expecting $20 / month, but attractive enough for many people. My interpretation of what I've heard is that the specific details of plans are probably only known to select high ups. Don't expect to hear anything official for a few weeks. Let the speculation continue I guess.

Did you hear that the "reasonable plans" will bundle voice and decent data volume (500MB)?

I was told by someone who works at optus
"We will be the only carrier selling the full 3G version – faster access to internet, maps & other content."
When I asked "How are you the only carrier selling the 3G version when Vodafone also is?"
The response was "I’ve been advised the 3G version will be exclusive to Optus for the first 6mths – but I’ll keep you posted as we signed a global deal with Apple on this."
Riiight.

Argh you idiots optus! Stop sending me emails like this:
Until you actually have some info. You know I paid a $100 deposit, so what makes you think I didn't know about the specs of the iPhone 3G that have been around for weeks now?!?!
Fuck you and fuck Vodafone - give me plan info NOW.

At least they said something... ie - We'll be back in the coming weeks.... That suggests not to expect any more information anytime soon.
What I'm trying to say is that at least it is some information, even if it's not the information we all want!

Of course they will be. They have to announce plans prior to the 11th.
I'm with Anthony. As my mother said, if you have nothing nice to say about something/someone, then say nothing
C'mon Optus. I need to sort out my mobile re-contracting!
