Can some one help clean up this mess.

Not so strangely there have threads about that too. Apart from some very basic details (all of which is public domain) and some minor information from carriers that seems to be far from set in stone at this stage. At the moment I'm trying to hide from the iPhone forum as it seems to induce a state of anxiety in me. I don't even quite know where I might start.
The main issue is probably that people like a personal answer to their questions regardless of whether the information is already available. When things settle down a bit that should all get back under control.

I just spoke to somebody at Optus and asked about plans. Just general questions about their voice and data plans etc and then asked about coverage and specifically the iPhone.
Imagine my shock when he told me that the iphone will work on 3G wherever they have coverage. He said that we don't have different frequencies like they do in the USA. I brought up the 850, 900, 2100 thing but he said no, not in Australia, it's all the same here. The USA is quad band but we have only one.
Do they not know or are they trying to misinform me?
Can any one shed light on this?

that guy was a moron, there are just as many frequencies being used here as the US, we use 2100, 900 and 850. The iPhone is only tri-band (2100 and 850 and some other one but NOT 900, Optus and Voda. Will use a lot of 900). That optus guy was an idiot.

*BEGIN INSIDE INFO FROM OPTUS*
They are getting the iPhone. It will cost some amount of money. It is a nice phone.
*END INSIDE INFO FROM OPTUS*
Does that help you? I got it from a very reliable source.

Yeah he was a moron but how can they claim something that is not true. Or are they mushrooms?
I live in Coffs Harbour and he said there was heaps of 3G coverage in this area but the map shows that the 3G is for future expansion.
I'll be pissed if I can't get 3G coverage with my new 3G iPhone!

I've got a mate that works for Optus (works as a pleb, and used to work as a Telstra pleb). There are always varying degrees of knowledge with every person you talk to.
Eg, if you walk into a Harvey Norman store and start asking about one of their LCD TV's, one sales guy will know a fair bit about it, and be very helpful, other sales person is working there only to sell TV's and doesn't care.
Same deal with phone support from telco's or pretty much any other service for that matter.
Not a matter of claiming something is true or not, they are trying to make a sale by telling you "what you want to hear". And yes, that sux.

Well, that's not really the whole question. You're looking for someone who has inside info and doesn't want to work there anymore.

Well I figured with the Domayne screenshots, someone might've found a super secret hidden optus screenshot.
Hmmm... Australian rumours are pretty rare indeed.

Do Optus do Business/Family plans for about 4 people, like AT&T in the US? My dad is considering getting a couple for his business.

You can do a business plan for one person if you like

Yes they do a business plan for 1-5 or 6 +. They are billed together and calls to each mobile are free but you need to have a separate plan for each. The plans can be from $9 - whatever.
That's what I was told.
