But this is great news! If they have it on every plan that means they will be able to sub it into all of their plans at different prices.
For prepay, they might even have it so that it's discounted when you buy it.
*Figers crossed. And you know what that means, guys? iPhone eBay selling for us, and not the US! hehehehe...

And that's exactly what makes this quite unlikely. Anything that craps on the US economy now is unlikely. The United States is still, just, Apples biggest source of income.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love an unlocked, sim unlocked, free to take where ever I please on whatever contract I want, iPhone. I just don't think it's going to come from the networks. This leaves me a very sad puppy as I won't be getting a 3G iPhone until my visa comes through. Still I understand the theory behind it.

I think all this talk and conjecture clinches it. Stay away till all the players are playing and all the tech issues are sorted out, then you can make an informed and logical decision. Otherwise it seems you will run a big risk of getting burned in a deal that may not suit you at all, and be far too costly for you to afford.

Not sure if this has been posted or not... Optus now has a section on the Pre-register site that lets you "Register for Updates".
When clicked it takes you to a new site that states:
Quote:
The iPhone you've been waiting for.
Coming July 11.
Be the first in the know. Simply register your details below and we'll send you updates as they come through from Apple.
Register your interest here if you will be a NEW customer to Optus
|
It's my italics and underlining. Why are they waiting on an update from Apple regarding their pricing? Have they signed up to sell the bloody thing without knowing the price? I doubt it.

I think you already know the answer to that don't you? Marketing (you need to be a compulsive liar to work there or be able to be one and have people believe you).
EDIT: sincerest apologies to anyone or those in marketing who has the capacity for honesty.

Off topic, but "irregardless" is not a word. You can use irrespective or regardless.
Sorry, I know this isn't a classroom. I just can't help it.

"Irregardless" was written into the Sopranos script to make Carmella (Tony's wife) look stupid.

Just looking at the optus site i noticed they have an $80 blackberry plan with unlimilted data and $300 inc calls for $80 per month and free blackberry
maybe we do have a chance at getting unlimited data?

No.
The BlackBerry is 2G, on GPRS, their cheaper data plan is 1MB, then straight up to unlimited. It's pretty obvious BlackBerry users use crap all data and they can afford to say 'unlimited'. It's also only through the BlackBerry web browser.

for once... SLAP!
Don't say no, when you don't know for sure.
It's possible, just unlikely.

Similar to AT&T plans
Wouldn't they aim for sumthing similar to the 2G iPhone plans on AT&T, O2 etc.
Calls- so many minutes included
SMS- so many included
Data- Unlimited
and paying a base monthly fee for this?

Nope, we get ripped in Australia compared to things worldwide. It's because if the carriers have roughly the same deals, who else can we go to? = no choice and they can charge what they want.
Regarding blackberry having unlimited data, I thought GPRS was a more expensive/inefficient way to transmit and receive data than 3G? I guess this is offset by the substantial less amount of data used.
We should get unlimited, Optus/Vodafone certainly could afford to do it, but ≤5GB is much more likely. Probably more towards the "less than" than the "equal to" part of that symbol too.
