MMS; do we care??
I wrote an article on the new 3G iPhone on my blog today and it seems the greatest controversy is that I mentioned there's still no native support for MMS and that most people now deem that it's a wasted tech as you have the ability to send photos via email.
My argument is that yes you can email photos but unless our data plans are good there's no way I'll be sending them and then what about everyone else that doesn't have iPhones or Blackberry's? They can't see your photo's if you email them...
Thoughts??

I certainly don't - MMS sucks as does video calling.
But just because I think it sucks, doesn't mean Apple shouldn't shove these features in.

I don't care because I've not sent an MMS in the 4 years I've been able to outside one time just to see how it works.

Completely agree with the video calling. Most useless "feature" of a 3G network.

MMS is like video calls...i've done it about 10 times after having a 3g phone since 2001. Couldn't care less. I would hope that there is some arrangement about email through the service though. For example 3 lets you send/receive as many as you like for $3/month.

I think in all the time I've had both of those features available on my phone I have not used video calling once, and every MMS of the few I have sent could have been done using email, which will be free (apart from data costs obviously)

I've tried about 2 times, both times it failed. I've successfully received one or two, both were sparkly love hearts or some other crap. Couldn't care less.

MMS is a Network fantasy product. They charge more for it and it costs them just the same to deal with it. It's a really poor product and personally I'm surprised when people say they use it!
I linked earlier to a great article about some of the "features" that some say are missing from the iPhone - see here - Apple takes the operator's shilling | The Register

On the iPhone (and most other phones), email is just data. So if an email is say, 20kb to send, it will eat up 20kb of your monthly data allowance. When telco's say you can send as many emails as you like for $3/month - that just means emails via their servers (I think).

I think it depends on which servers you go through. I've got the three email product, and because it simply latches onto their servers to send/receive it doesn't count as "external traffic", however if I used the same phone to access a pop/imap server from gmail for example that is when it goes "out of the garden" and becomes a data charge.
I think if you had an iPhone on 3 and used their email product exclusively for email to and from the iPhone, you could get away with the $3 all you can eat plan. Use it with anyone else and...look out :P

Ditto. I've also made a grand total of one video call just to see how it works. But frankly if I was out in public I wouldn't make a video call (since everyone can hear what the person on the other end is saying), and also, I wouldn't call someone by video unless I knew they were in a place by themselves. The only possible exception is if the aliens decide to land, then I might ring someone via video and say "OMG look at this!!!!"
MMS and video both seem like features aimed at drunk people on a saturday night. Doesn't mean they shouldn't have the option, but I for one would never use it.

1- It's expensive
2- E-Mail on the iPhone is way better and it's free.

I remember making a video call or two on 3 when they were free..had this giant motorola pda/phone symbian thing. When they finally upgraded the firmware to support a BT headset can you believe!?! it didn't with with video calls!! It only worked with the wired handsfree...was my first instance of "This isn't a bug, it's a feature!"
but yes...down with MMS!
