Yes AFAIK. Just using it as example of people getting lost in the hype.
It's just like every phone I've bought except my first brick has FM radio and the Iphone does not.
I'm sure people can say but the Iphone has mp3's and internet it does not need radio.
I like the Iphone but even my old Nokia has FM radio,MMS, email, Web etc etc

I use MMS all the time, but only because it's cheaper than the outrageous costs of SMS. MMS however, is not nearly as compatible or reliable as SMS or Email.
A lot of my contacts are on 3, and considering I have the 3 MMS pack ($3/month, as many MMSes as you like to anyone on 3 and 10 free MMS to other networks) so for me it works really well, but if all my mates were using email I'd much rather that, even if most people don't use push... but for now MMS works.
That's where the real issue lies with email - most accounts aren't push. If they were a lot of people would flock to it and that'd leave SMS for dead - just like it has in Japan!

2 different women have both sent me MMS pics of things they shouldn't have.
in both cases the pic failed ... cant tell you how disappointing that is!
MMS. Epic Fail.

Fair point. People do tend to get swept up in the hype quite easily and seem all too willing to brush off short comings and failings in their fanatical fervor.
I don't really care either way about MMS, to be honest, but the lack of FM radio (or an accessory that enables FM radio) bothers me.

I will miss MMS, but I'll get over it.
Alot of my friends are technology challenged and some don't even own computers!! So MMS is a good way to share pics and bigger messages with these friends.....
The ones who do have computers and emails addresses often dont check their emails for weeks!!!

I need to just get this out in the open.
Just because you don't use MMS, doesn't mean no-one else does. In the last 18 months I have sent just shy of 20,000 mms and only a quarter of that in sms. Some people do actually use mms, and I will really, really miss it.
The ability to take a photo and send it straight to my friends phone is priceless, and alot less hassle than email given most people don't actually email on their phone. It seems to me the people who don't use MMS are the people who never set it up to use.

Dude that is 36MMS's a day....
If you sleep 6 hours a day - that is 2MMS/hour with 1 SMS every 2hours!!
If you are so dependent on MMS then quite simply the iPhone aint for you.
Of course you could get all your buddies who you send MMS to, to get iPhones.. and problem solved. But regardless... MMS is dead and buried.. and to use the old cliche - it is not a question of if but a question of when. And apple is driving the nails into the coffin.

thanks huy!
I'm not convinced. Who gets to decide it's old tech? There isn't really anything replacing it, I don't see email as a replacement, more as an alternative. I think MMS is under rated. It adds alot to a message when there is a picture there. Like they say, picture is worth 1000 words.
Your right tho, if it was sms for $3 a month, it would be similar figures. I'm hoping for a plan that is similar to the Hiptop deal with unlimited sms/mms in the plan.
And averaged out, your about right. At my peak I was pushing out roughly 100 a day, not it is alot less seeings my girl works and can't message at work. All of my closest friends are on 3 minus one or two people. All my family too, including my brother in Perth so it's cool to be able to show him new stuff or whatever.
side note: 20000 mms at 25c a pop, $5000 worth for...18 x 3 = $54. Not bad...thanks three

SMS And MMS are old formats, they are just there until all phones have email capabilities.

Hah that is truly a champion effort with the MNSes
I love MMS as I said before but I do believe email is just so much more reliable and accessable that it blows the socks off MMS. Oh how I love my email...

I think that revenue wise for carriers sms/mms > email. This will be more and more so as data charges fall and email will be done purely web based.
I guess the advantage is that email you can read on your phone and on your computer, in a way syncing the device with your computer.
Maybe a new format will come in, a cross between email and sms/mms...you never know.

Push email with notifications and iPhone badging would be pretty sweet under MobileMe.
All over the air. All instant.
