hi,
not sure if this has been answered here yet, but my iphone finally unlocked today, so i put my three sim in and got the internet up and running just fine.
i am having trouble using my three email account with the mail client though. i entered in all the proper three settings and when it tries to check the mailbox, it says "the connection to the server mail.three.net.au failed"
i rang up three tonight to check that the settings were correct and they were. they weren't really able to help me with a solution though, as the iphone 3g isn't one of their supported handsets.
just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and if anyone knows of a possible solution.
thanks in advance!

Hi Maseface take a look at this thread it may be more helpful to you. I had exactly the same problem last. I kept trying until it eventually worked.

The telco spurned by Apple so far -- Three -- has announced tasty plans for iPhone users who bring their own 3G handset.
Three doesn't have the announcement it probably wanted to make: that it is to become the fourth official telco to be selling the iPhone. But it has a tasty offer all the same: fantastic value plans for people who bring their own iPhone to the telco.
Currently, the only way to get an iPhone in Australia that's not locked to a particular network is to buy an iPhone through Optus on a prepaid basis, then pay an $80 unlocking fee. Prepaid iPhones from Optus cost $729 for an 8GB model, or $849 for a 16GB. Combined with the $80 unlocking fee, that equates to $809 for an 8GB and $949 for a 16GB.
When you bring your own phone to Three, the telco will pay you $300 to offset the cost of buying the phone from Optus. Suck on that, Apple!
So the real starting price for putting your iPhone on Three is either $509 for an 8GB, or $649 for 16GB. But after that, the pricing becomes a lot sweeter than any of the 'official' telcos. The catch, however, is that you have to sign up for 24 months with Three -- fair enough considering they're giving you a $300 credit.
View the deals (which will be available from 4th August) here! ( http://apcmag.com/images/threeiphoneplans.png)
THANKYOU THREE

Those deals are quite nice.
I'm on an old $69 cap and spend $20 a month on Xseries Silver (500mb)
With this I can clean up another $20 off my bill by getting rid of xseries and getting 4x the data
woohoo!
Thank you Three for being the desperate mob you are

Hey Fickwalker go into Mail Accounts scroll down to the bottom and under the Outgoing Mail Server tab you'll see Advanced inside there you'll find the Incoming Settings.

Cool I'm so blind , thanks! I can't get to it when trying my Three email because it doesn't let me set it up completely. Guess I've somehow gotten my username/password combo messed up. Thanks again!

Keving, fairly decent - make sure you check out 3's coverage maps in your home and work location, as well as regular transit routes (such as train lines).
Three are very honest with their coverage maps in that they openly document coverage gaps.
