The short version is that you can record the call if the other party consents to it being recorded (or you have a warrant for a phone tap ).

Not that words are worth much but I will add my two cents - just phoned 3 and they confirmed that they will be releasing iphone plans in the next few months. He seemed quite definate about it, for what that is worth and confirmed that their release will be accompanied by the usual advertising and internet coverage.
Given that 3 will lose alot of customers by not having the iphone, I just can't believe that they won't have it - it would be corporate suicide not to offer the latest in mobile technology.
Anyhow, time will tell - stranger things have happened

i guess they didn't think they were going to be getting a flood of calls why they're not getting it...because the fact that they are saying that they are means that they might being trying to stop the "rats jumping the sinking ship"
we should have a tally of people called and the responses they have gotten, and find the average response

I think this is all BS. I rang them yesterday and today and they have both said the same thing "we have no plans to sell the iPhone at the moment, but we have noted your interest and will notify you if it becomes available on 3".

On the other hand, if either will offer unlimited data, I'll leave Three in an instant! :P

Agreed, it will be locked to a carrier and will cost to unlock. Unless the Dev Team does something (which for sure they will) and then we simply buy the prepaid version then hack and end of story.

That rep musta been smoking something serious! Planet 3 is based on the APN you enter for the handset. In iPhone set the APN to '3services' and point Safari to http://three.net.au (the default Planet 3 homepage) and almost all services will work. Of course things such as the Planet 3 version of MSN won't work as they are a downloadable Java app. Mobile Internet will work fine, either subscribe to X-Series or a data pack and you will be able to browse using the '3services' APN. MMS will never work without the support of Apple. To suggest otherwise is quite silly.
EDIT: The only people that would know anything would be Head Office in Sydney (the number is on the net if you have a look around) or speak to the call centre in Brisbane. I highly doubt that the standard customer support will have reliable information about iPhone.

I went into the Norwood 3 Store this morning to enquire about a handset upgrade, just in case the iPhone comes to 3. I still have 7 months to go before I can upgrade. No iPhone for me (yet)
The guy I spoke to didn't know anything about the iPhone, by the way. Can't say I really expected him to.

I don't really know how this works, but is it at all possible that when people are ringing the call centre (which I assume is in India based on the accents of the people who answer whenever I call) they are speaking with call centre workers who take calls from all of 3's customers worlwide? And that perhaps the people are getting confused as 3 indeed are releasing the iPhone in Hong Kong and Macau.

Folks, stop wasting your time with the monkeys at the phone stores, they don't know shit. END OF STORY.
Ask for the store manager, and there may be a 30% chance that he/she will know. YEESH!
In fact.. it's probably best to just sit back and wait.. the call centres, and stores... and even we.. (unless we work for mobile phone magazines/telcos in the offices as opposed to the cubicles) as consumers.. don't know ANYTHING till Apple releases the phone..
so water your plants, spend time with your friends/partners, and stop thinking about the iPhone.. I myself have even come to that conclusion..
The iPhone will be coming.. now that we have an official date.. lets get over it
