SingTel, Bharti Airtel, Globe and Optus today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Singapore, India, the Philippines and Australia later this year
|
So far every carrier that has gotten a deal in recent weeks has said the EXACT SAME THING, in a very short press release.
Another interesting thing to note... no pictures. Not even promo pics of the existing iPhone.

I went into a local store yesterday and the manager said they have been told no Iphone until the end of the year same as what Optus are saying. You can register an expression of interest and be added to email update listing

Heh - it's just going to be locked on multiple networks is all we know at the moment.
Don't Optus and Vodafone have different frequencies for their networks? And both different to NextG and 3?
How would a Optus iPhone work on another network?

I am hoping that the iphone will be available for use on the Telstra network, was looking at getting my wife one.
All other telco coverage (as well as ISP) in tasmania is nothing short of a joke.

So how would that work? Would the Apple Stores in Sydney and Melbourne have different stock depending on which network the customer is using?

Both using 900/2100 AFAIK. Optus have announced their wide-spread 98% coverage of HSDPA using 900 and 2100mhz in the last few days, meaning the handset would need to use both.
Telstra's Next G and AT&T's 3G product are both using 850mhz.
It'll be interesting to see what's going to be rolled out where. Fun times ahead
