Why would anyone want to be on a contract with Telstra to start, unless it's for the coverage. That's the only sane reason I can think of

I'm the opposite, please let it be Optus so that I don't have to change dealers/contracts. Come on Optus.

A friend of mine at Vodafone told me that he has heard from within Vodafone that the iPhone will cost around $800.00 when it is first released in Australia.

and isn't that reason enough then - when you live outside of the metro areas and travel the distances that many do telstra is your only choice - optus/vodaphone may be great - but have limited coverage beyond big cities and some regional centres. we are 70 km from the nearest mobile tower and telstra next G is our only option. Recently travelled from melbourne to home - (70km north Griffith NSW) and didn't lose service. Try that with the other networks.

Optus? Man, I'm glad its looking to be unlocked. I've never met anyone with good Optus coverage.
And as far as the Apple logo being squished, are they even allowed to do that? I am just recalling back to the Nintendo press kits where it was stipulated that if you used the Nintendo logo it *had* to be in correct proportions, and was not allowed to have its colour changed or to be altered in any way. Although that may have only applied to watermarking Nintendo-supplied screenshots, as they also imposed a minimum size limit.
Either way, the damn thing should come out already, and every single one should have engraved on it 'first seen at MacTalk AU'.
Parallels...*shakes head*

Because some of us have have access to contracts normal people don't. Without divulging too much information, I'm on a corporate plan that is a lot more cost friendly than a residential plan

That's a really good point but I'm not entirely convinced that much thought went into it. You would have thought that if they were really trying, the website would have been ninemsndotcomdotau and the network displayed on the phone would have been Optus instead of Cingular. I'm guessing at this stage they just lifted the image from a US source.

Not deliberate, just lazy!
That graphic isn't as i thought a faki iphone, or ever a photochop, it's actually the first result for google image search "iphone"
iphone - Google Image Search
And just so you don't have to, it's actually a story about using parallels to run windows on the iphone
iPhone running Parallels (kottke.org)
so there we, go mystery debunked... more LAZY LAZY LAZY reporting from australian primetime news

perhaps that's because there's no searching within a thread, I should have added that I did spent a cursory glance looking if anyone else had posted that, but didn't see anything
