telstra's pocketnews application now works on iPhone

hey all,
i can't go 5 minutes without knowing the footy scores, so i've been loving telstra's pocketnews application on my old phones. basically it was an application installed via the SIM that allowed you to request a sms that contained the requested news for 0.5 cents or similar.

not suprisingly, this didnt work with my iPhone... until today when i tried it again.. it now launches it's own application which works as expected!!

are telstra preparing their network for the iPhone?

How exactly does it function? Does a PocketNews application show up on the homescreen?

because it's friday night and i'm sick as a dog at home, i took some pics

after going to settings, phone, you see the following menu, with SIM Applications at the bottom

open that and see pocketnews.. previously pressing that did nothing.. but now opening that launches..

the application.. you can choose from any of those as per the regular telstra app

that's sports scores.. AFL, NRL, and cricket

AFL teams to choose from

i dunno if this is custom written by telstra or what.. but it comes up with requested.. a "cancel" and "accept" button down the bottom

about 5 seconds later.. the SMS with your news!

Cool! I just tried this out on mine. Works well (Although I didn't really need to see that Essendon V Geelong score again!)

Cheers!

I wouldn't read too much into this - my Optus iPhone does the exact same thing with the PhoneBook Group and SMS Group applications, including a screen almost identical to the one in your second last photo (says "PhoneBook Group" instead of "PocketNews Requested", with the same cancel and accept buttons).

Hah, I remember Pocketnews! I'd request news or tech reports to make it look like I was receiving and sending SMS messages. God, that was sad.

These are 'flash' SMS messages, are they not? Which means like many VoiceMail notification SMSes from various carriers, they delete or override the previous version of the message. They only started working with the 1.1.2 (or was it 1.1.3) update. Correct me if I'm wrong.

When I got my iPhone back in October it always worked for me. Now I dont have an option for Sim Apps as I'm with Virgin. I dont miss it at all because I never used it apart from weather every blue moon. The weather app now does it cheaper and nicer

EDIT:
