iPod Accessories and the iPhone

Does anyone know what sort of compatibility there is between iPod accessories an the iPhone?

For example, do FM transmitters work when plugged in or does it just give an error message on the iPhone saying it won't work?

What are your experiences with your iPod accessories on your iPhone?

The Belkin TuneBase FM doesn't work very well. Lots of GSM noise, playback stops and starts.

The iPod radio remote doesn't work on any level, either as a headphone attachment or for FM radio.

One that I know of is the iPod FM Remote. No functionality at all. Not even to skip tracks.

I use the Griffin FM Transmitter with my 5G ipod video. I have used it with my iPhone but it automatically goes into Airplane mode which makes it useless as a Phone whilst listening to music from it in the car. That is why I use my ipod as a source of music and my iphone as my phone (which happens to have some music and videos).

The new iTrip, which is made for iPod Touch works fine on the iPhone. Every time you plug it in you get the "This accessory was not built for the iPhone, would you like to turn on Airplane mode? Yes/No"

I hit no, press play. I've never heard any phone static through it.

I've been using the Belkin TuneBase FM with ClearScan with my iPhone and found it to be pretty good. Doesn't seem to make any difference whether or not it's in Airplane mode (you do get the message every time you place the iPhone in the dock), the reception is fine as long as the FM channel is clear (ClearScan makes that easy enough). Same as when using the Nano.

I've even been able to use it as a car handsfree - via the iPhone speaker. It's nothing like a true handsfree (just use the headphones!) but if the road/traffic is quiet and the line is good and the person on the other end speaks clearly ... you get the picture?

I'm using the ipod hi-fi fine with my iphone

It says say that it recommends that your set to flight mode because of interference but it works fine even when in normal mode

I have to get rid of my TuneTalk stereo (recording device) which won't work on my ipod touch. at least the Griffin iTrip works (better) on the touch than my old 5G iPod :P go figure!

The Tuffwrap is the only iPhone-specific accessory I have purchased. I should mention it's a great case that adds a bit of grip and rugged protection to the iPhone.

Anyway in buying the following 'made for iPod' accessories, I have taken a bit of a punt on them working with the iPhone. So far, so good:

Monster iCarCharger - despite the supposed fears/risks of using a car charger, I have tested this with my iPhone and it works fine. Upon connection it does show the 'not compatible, airplane mode y/n?' prompt but tit doesn't cause the iPhone to warm up at all and charges in a timely manner with the three-step indicator working as it would for an iPod.

Gear4 HouseParty 24/7 - this iPod speaker system/dock/alarm clock/radio is listed as 'compatible with but not designed for iPhone' on the Gear4 website. Upon connection is shows the 'not compatible, airplane mode y/n?' prompt, but it charges, plays the music, works with the remote and sounds great

iPod USB cable - I purchased a couple of these to keep at work and in my bag, so I'm never short of charging options. As expected they work without a hitch and for around $3 delivered, they are a great buy.
