1 cent per connection for telstra edge?

Hi guys and gals. I just noticed that. I'm getting charged a cent everytime I connect using edge. I'm on the prepaid plan and have bought the 80mb data pack and my usage does get subtracted. Is this 1 cent charge normal? I have my setting as telstra.internet but is this correct? I haven't seen anything on their website regarding this fee and would appreciate some insight to this before I ring up. Thanks

Just rang the helpdesk and they're telling me that certain websites incur a 1 cent charge, whilst others get deducted from the 80mb. I just seems strange to me, but then again, it's Telstra who loves sucking every penny out of you... literally.

Anyways, I'd appreciate anyone's insight as to what the 1 cent is, and if someone can point me to this particular information its highly appreciated. Thanks.

I can't help explaining that charge, but I'm on a Telstra 1000Gb/month mobile data plan (post-paid though) and I don't get any 1c charges for EDGE connections.

Every bill I receive these days is about 50 pages long because Telstra feel the need to list EVERY EDGE connection my iPhone makes - which is one every 15 minutes on the road to update my email and every time I manually initiate a connection to browse the web. Each of those entries is followed with a $0.00 charge.

If you know what sites you are browsing when you get the 1c charge I can try them on my data plan and see if I get any charges under that plan.

Hmmm... this is such a big mystery. EDGE speeds are really good, but its not fun seeing credit being taken away for nothing.

I had a number of charges for my iPhone retrieving mail in the middle of the night. I also had credit taken away during lunch time when I only visited Mactalk.com and nab.com.au for internet banking and mail.

Maybe it's the sending and retrieving of mail on the iPhone that incurs this 1 cent charge... if so, I better stop using the mail app and go with the Gmail website....

I don't know... I'm using telstra.internet and my usage is pretty much in sync with what my phone tells me.

I just called them up as i too have discovered that i am being charged 1c. They told me it was because i was checking out an international site and the data cap only included data for visiting australian websites (uh huh that's right...)

Anyway i told her that it really didn't make sense. Ive had telstra internet with dialup + adsl and I haven't experienced the additional charge based on the geographical location of the sites that i visit. In addition, if they were going to implement such a pricing structure, they should provide a guide on what websites should be charged and how they should be charged. Terms and conditions for the data pack should also be updated to reflect these charges.

Anyway i must have completely bored her brains out. She just gave me $10 credit to shut up. Hooray! But even though its enough to absorb the annoying 1c charges here and there for the next month I really dont want to spend 45 minutes on the phone to get another credit to offset further month's usage. Hmm... what to do?
