Keep in mind the apps are for the iPod Touch too - and that is a product that is available in Australia so there is no reason why we can't be developing for it now hey?

Shane.

Where does it say it is per year? All I can find is Steve saying it costs "just $99", and the SDK website says $99, with no "per year" anywhere to be found.
Did I miss something, or are you just assuming it is per year?
Regards,
Shane.

iPod Touch? What's that?
Good point though - hopefully they make the developer program open to Australians (it's limited to just Americans right now, the SDK is available to anyone though).
Unless you want to put apps on the iTMS (therefore giving people an easy way to get to your apps), I don't think there's a need to pay the $99. Jailbreak an iTouch/iPhone and transfer the compiled app across via AFP/SCP and it will work.

This *seems* to work, but I need to repeat the experiment with a real app

Is there any info on whether these apps will require the 2.0 Firmware to work? Could be a sticking point until a jailbreak is discovered for the new firmware.

Anyone else having problems logging into the Developer site and signing up to download the SDK and videos? All I keep getting is a loop that takes me to the Apple ID login page then to the new sign-up page in a round-a-bout manner.
Safari & Firefox are both the same - no luck.
Any help?

Haha. First when I read about the 'iFund' I thought it was a joke!
And it's not even made or managed by Apple!

It immediately cuts down the number of people who would produce 'Hello World' type applications.

Yes, that's true - the downside is it's hard to see why anyone would put free useful apps on the App Store given this cost.

I'm looking forward to it too - I think already we can see there will be some great apps for this in the future. The samples/demos using the accelerometers, opengl es etc look pretty amazing.

Just finished watching the video - looks amazing, but what a tease! End of June!
Hopefully the new update will be hacked soon... With the beta release hopefully that will make things easier.
Those games looked amazing, as well as some of the other software such as the medical stuff. The SDK looks great as well.
Overall I think it was the best deal we could have expected and I was pleasantly surprised.
Is it just me or did that dude at the end have a major man crush on Steve, he hugged him and then spent another 5mins kissing his arse!
Phil's joke with the Apple rumours on his calendar was great!

Hmm yeah quite true! Either that or he is just insanely pleased with how much money he is making from his partnership with Steve Jobs
