agreed it was always software not hardware, but the battery life furphy has been completely discredited AFAIK.

Yeees.
Is that yes, not allowed, or yes, will be?!

The question was slightly different to that, and I quote:
Quote:
11:32AM - We asked: Will SIM unlock software be considered software not allowed in the app store?
A: Steve: (pause) "... yes." Laughter.

Yeah, but the SDK beta is out today. What's to stop devs from using it to build their own apps and make them available via Installer repos for free? No $99, no waiting for 2.0, no getting Apple's okay.

I don't know - when I swap my Blackberry to 3G, the battery only lasts about 60% of the time it lasts when I have it on 2G (GPRS). It's better when I'm fairly stationary, and worse when I'm highly mobile.

They talked about Cisco VPN software already being used in beta... Can someone clarify for me - does this mean with the release of the SDK that an at least partially working Cisco VPN client is coming to iPhone and iPod Touch almost immediately, or in June if we don't want a beta installed?
I want an excuse to buy an iPod Touch, but only if I can actually finally connect to my university's network on it.

No mention of iPod touches it seems.. These will all be iPod compatible, surely? Apart from the phone and camera stuff, it's all the same? Right?
Edit: from AppleInsider | Apple announces iPhone 2.0 software and SDK beta
"Third party applications created for the iPhone will also run on the iPod touch, and iPod touch users will be required to purchase a software update to run these applications. "

As far as I can tell much of the software developed for the SDK is supposed to be available in standard form for iPhone and iPod Touch in June when an update will come to the firmware. And yes, that update will apparently cost Touch owners.
What I'm curious about is to whether by downloading/using the SDK you can run through beta versions of some of this software already - including the Cisco VPN client that they've apparently been testing at Disney and Nike already (see arstechnica coverage)...
