Virgin GPRS setup
Can anyone give a quick rundown on how to get GPRS working on my iPhone? I'm on the $20 cap plan with Virgin and also have the $10/300mb data option on there as well.
ZiPhone unlocked running 1.1.3.

I'm probably going to switch over to a Post-Paid plan at the start of next month.
But I was just wondering, if I get a data plan, which one should I get?
Would I need 300mb for my iPhone? Or would 50mb be sufficient? Does anyone actually make a dint on their data allowance with the iPhone? Cause I'm thinking, it'd be too slow to be practical. I'll probably only download emails and check weather and stocks.

Again, discussed at length in those other forums mentioned above.
It really depends on your expected usage Cjuiz, but I check email every day, check a few websites as necessary and use Google Maps a fair bit and have rarely gone past half of my 50MB quota. The major reason is the speed of GPRS makes all but the most essential internet use seem cumbersome and unnecessary.
It's worth trying the 50MB plan for a month, monitoring you use (on both the phone and Virgin's website) and then assess whether you really need to spend the extra $5/month for all that extra bandwidth you're likely not to use anyway.

I'm on the $5 plan which keeps me happy as I use a wireless network at home. If your unsure go the $10 plan as they rates an stupidly high if you go over the 50Mb limit on the $5 plan.

I just tried a Telstra sim in my phone and it was actually decent in terms of loading pages. However obviously that was over EDGE.
How much slower will Virgin GPRS be compared to Telstra EDGE?

MUCH slower apparently,
I'm going to downgrade to the 50mb per month Virgin plan,
I use facebook on there all the time,
it can't cope with much else via the GPRS, and I have used it a bit and haven't even racked up 2mb yet haha.
