Replaced my iphone screen

My iphone screen was broken after a 40 cm fall.
The touch sensor did not work anymore.
Finally my iphone screen arrived this week and I could not wait to put it in an fix my iphone which had a broken touch panel, the lcd worked fine.

I already opened up my phone so I thought it would be a quick job of replacing the screen. Wrong, it took me about 2 hours because the screen was glued to the plastic internal housing. I was scared to break any of the part that were not going to be replaced.

Putting everything together took about 5% of the time it took to take it apart, no dramas there.
I hoped that it would work again cause otherwise I probably thrown the thing against the wall.
But, I turned it on and the touch screen worked great.
It took a reboot to get the top of the screen working too, don’t know why.
So a total of $150 Australian dollar was spend and close to day of my time but it was worth it. What a wicked little device.

The Same story with the images is on my blog kingsdesign.

Congrats on the repair mate, I can imagine the excitement you had the moment you powered it on and went for the swipe to unlock

I have to do this to mine, I just ordered from eBay a screen with the glass panel for $170.

I didn't damage mine but today it developed a 1CM dead horizontal strip at the bottom which sucks completely!

Was it hard getting the antenna cover off, did you just use an iPod opening tool?

It is quite hard to get the iphone open for the first time.

Use this guide to get the iphone open.
Make sure you have an iphone opener and a very small philips head screw driver.
I used half of a razor blade to slide in between the antenna cover and the dock connector.
the ipod opener tool will get you through it.

The guide pretty much says it all.

Good luck

Cool, yeah that was the guide I was looking at, I have some experience with these thing (as a certified apple tech) so I am hoping all would be ok.

I also decided to get a new rear panel and bezel as I had dropped my phone many, many times haha.

Also as an interesting side note, one of the sellers on eBay had a picture of the replacement back panel he was selling, with the serial number intact. So I checked up the serial number found that the iPhone listed out of warranty..... strange. It showed up as if it was an iPod that was exchanged in warranty and sent back to Apple, that is it had no purchase data (date or location), so I checked the history and found that it was indeed swapped out for a screen issue and an Apple retail store in the US.

Clearly these guys must work at the factory that makes the iPhones or refurbs them and are just stripping the good parts from the returned units and selling them on eBay. Case parts would be easily done because they are changed regardless of the condition when the items are refurbed for service.

Yeah I have been looking at those cases as well, because I damaged mine with opening the Iphone.
Zero experience in opening apple hardware and my case edges are bent a little outwards.
