To iPhone or to iWait?

Ok if this macworld shows up No evidence of a 3G handset or Reasonable Australian Launch date I am thinking of getting an iphone.

From the users perspective is it worth canceling my 3 account and getting one of thease phones? Or should I wait?

Wait it out, you'll regret it otherwise.. especially if it will need repairs.

And it's still not entirely unlocked now is it? (ie the newer firmware... though of course, I've seen firmwire 1.1.1 iPhones on eBay for a mere $999....)

If you don't have one by now, I think you should just wait it out.

Though if I lost my iPhone today, I'd buy one tomorrow.

If there is no word at MacWorld I would issue a buy recommendation. I don't regret buying an iPhone at launch for a minute. If you want an iPhone and can have it six months before it comes out here then I can't see why you wouldn't do it. The iPhone seems to have been a very safe product so I wouldn't worry too much about not having a real warranty.

I don't regret a single thing about my iPhone acquirement.

You have to weigh up which is more important to you: a valid warranty and hassle-free software updates, or instant gratification and choice of carrier.

I'm delaying gratification - I wanna be able to get the new features without waiting for a hack each time.

A contract would be an issue, too?

Some of us (me) are still students and don't have jobs. No jobs (pun not intended) would mean no credit rating/lock-in contracts/credit card?

I bought my iPhone outright and am on prepaid. No data plan.

Me either.

And I'll gladly buy another one when the official 3G iPhones are released in Aus, assuming there's reasonable plans, which there might not be... and in that case I'll just keep my hacked phone and slow data thanks

i agree completely, i love my iPhone and would definitely grab another if mine was lost/stolen/broken as soon as physically possible.

i've already struck a deal with a mate to sell him mine cheap when the 3G aussie versions come out, so if cash isn't an issue i'd say go for it.

Ditto. Quite simply the best device on the market by a long shot. The very thought of going back to a nokia or motorola...ugh

It's easier for those who have waited this long to keep on waiting, than it is for those who have already made the jump to go back!

i'd wait for a 3G/HSDPA enabled iPhone. Not entirely sure about this, but is the current iPhone is only capable of dial-up speeds with mobile data?

It's been said before, but mobile data speed is not just about the network:
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=jJTdFTIF2No
My experience has been that web pages render on the iphone at about the same speed as they did on my old motorola razr v6 on the next g network. Of course there is no comparison at all when it comes to the browsing experience
