Free/V.Cheap SMS from PC/iPod Touch?

Guys, I hooked up with a new girl () and the amount of SMS's I'm sending each day is making me seriously question my sanity. Is there some service that'll let me send cheap - or free - SMS messages from my mac or ipod?

I used to use Callwave's widget, but it doesn't seem to work for australian numbers anymore.

Cheers,

J

PS Threadless.com is having a sale, with guy's tees from ten bucks..

Twitter eh?

The site is down for maintenance, what's it about?
She doesn't really use 'the internet' so does it rely on that?

its just a weird chat client, but it can work over the web, via im, or sms.

you could both sign up, then set each others account to get sms for direct messages, then, whenever you want to sms her, just direct message her from your pc/ipod...

250 free sms a month.

and thats only counted as received sms's per person. so technically you could both send 250 to each other.

but then you'll get addicted like me, follow a bunch of hilarious kids, and before you know it you can blow your 250 sms in a day.. i need help. dammit, when is twitter back up!!!

Why not utilise an IM client like Yahoo or MSN?

Are you sure?

When asking for my mobile number, it has a checkbox with the text :

[v] It’s okay for Twitter to send txt messages to my phone. Std. rates apply.

I know they changed a lot of stuff around last night, maybe this has also changed?

in the us you pay to receive sms, which is why they're asking you then. in oz, we only pay to send, and thats all you'll pay here.

thats why australians recently got hit with the 250 limit. i guess we were going overboard..

Wow - never knew that one

Thanks FTC for sorting me out. I've signed up, their website is still a bit down - lots of database connect errors.

Why don't you each get a virgin prepaid and use that to use the free sms feature?
