I was talking with W9cae the other day about the possibility that the inability (so far) to unlock the out-of-the-box 1.1.2 iPhones means that the day is approaching when we unlockers will be unable to access any more firmware upgrades. His opinion is that even if that happens, with 1.1.1 and 1.1.2, we now have very good phones, whereas the earlier version were almost a beta phone which we all helped test.
Connecting those thoughts with the discussion in
another thread about how many of us would sign up with Telstra if and when they get to officially release it, and I began to think about what features I'd still like to see added to the iPhone in future upgrades. Leaving aside hardware questions like 3G and GPS, this is what I thought of so far:
1. I'd like to see a character count on the SMS composer.
2. I'd like to be able to turn the phone around to get the larger landscape keyboard in all keyboard contexts (not just in Safari where it already works).
3. I'd like the Calendar to import the colour coded calendar distinctions available in iCal.
4. I'd like the ToDo list from iCal to synch to a ToDo list on the iPhone. There is a 3rd party Mobile ToDo List, and they hope to introduce synching, but I would have thought it would probably come as one of the FW apps some time.
5. I'd like to see search panels in Contacts and Calendar. Again, these are presently available in a 3rd party app., but they could be built in.
6. I'd like to see the icon reordering and hiding function that is presently available in the 3rd party "Customize" become standard.
What else would others among you like to see?
Cheers,
Nathan
