3 Mobile and the iPhone

I had a meeting today with 3 Mobile as our company (who pays my mobile phone bill) is thinking of switching from Telstra. During the meeting my iPhone rang as I had forgotten to turn it off. The 3 Mobile guy said is that the iPhone and I said yes. He asked if he could put his SIM in to see if it would work. I said OK and when I inserted his SIM it said No Service at the top and does not appear to work. I sure hope their pricing doesn't match Optus or Vodafone as it would suck if I could no longer use the iPhone.

Anyone on here use the iPhone and 3 Mobile? I'm hoping the guy just got shitty reception in our building. He only had 1 to 2 bars of reception on his phone.

iPhone and 3 doesn't work, as mentioned in many previous iPhone threads. Sucks doesn't it.

3 uses 2.1ghz 3g. (the stuff the rest of the world uses),

they roam to telstras GSM network when out of "3" coverage.

the iphone is only gsm, so, if you went to 3, no iphone for you until they release a SameG one.

Three USIMs (except for a few old ones, AFAIK) do not work in the iPhone. I researched this extensively as I'm a Three customer and I wanted an iPhone.

I ended up buying an unlocked Nokia E65 to last me until the iPhone gets here next year.

It's all good. I have some say in who we switch over to. 3 Mobile won't be getting a good review from me

I assume that they work fine with Optus and Vodafone???

The iPhone doesn't accept the 3 sim because they've programmed the sim to only work on 3G phones, if you could get it to work it would - however it'd be on the telstra GSM network and it'd cost you heaps whenever you used data.

I'd get a bodgy iphone in an instant if the 3 sim cards worked.. IF... but no, may well have to wait another 2 years *punches wall*....

If I was you, I would have asked the Three rep to go back to HQ and find out as much information as possible about whether the higher-ups are negotiating anything w/ getting the iPhone on 3, or whether they've spoken to Apple about progress on the 3G iPhone.. This is starting to really piss me off, all this talk about that fucking gadget..

but your missing the best part, 3 IMAP email is free to receive both inside and outside the 3 Network, and the $3 email plan still holds true iirc for both inside and outside

I agree, IMAP is awesome, especially if you're in the situation where you need to have multiple computers, but dont want to have to manage the email 3 times.
