I try to keep my phone on WiFi when ever possible. I have the $10 telstra data plan and have only used 1/4 of my amount last month. my plan is 20 mb per month.

I went through about 10MB last month, and have just moved my Data plan from $16 for 10MB, to $10 for 20MB, so I think it's going to cover me fine.

On that... I am very very happy to have walked into a Telstra store and got a deal where I pay less and got more for it. That doesn't happen very often!

Only a couple of mb for the first month. Wasn't sure how much I'd gone through and didn't want to go over my limit.

I do use the net on it a lot... just over wifi.

50mb for $5 on Virgin. What's with the other expensive data plans? :S Telstra I assume.

I never use Wifi unless I wanna browse something I need high speed for. I love the extra battery life that comes with having Wifi off all the time. I have the $10 plan for 300mb with Virgin which you cant beat for value although I could probably live with the $5. I use anything from 30mb a month to 100mb if I am downloading things.

I'm with optus so real-time billing doesnt exist (at least, not yet) for me. Apart from leaving EDGE on all the time is there a way I can keep a cumulative total of my usage that anybody knows of?

Probably the easiest way is to use the iPhone itself. Go to Settings -> Usage. Reset the statistics at the beginning of each billing cycle (set yourself a reminder if necessary) and then you can look at those stats to see exactly what the phone has uploaded and downloaded over EDGE.
