iPhone general usage questions (1.1.1)

Got my new iPhone from the US yesterday - everything's going excellently, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the general usage stuff. I've got a couple of questions in case anyone can help..

1. Is there a way to turn off SMS previews appearing on the "slide to unlock" screen... I _swear_ i saw this somewhere once but I haven't been able to find it since.

2. When I'm typing a SMS (or typing anywhere for that matter) and it suggests a word and I press space, it changes it to the suggested word. Crappy. Can you turn off it suggesting words?

3. How much success have people had using the wall charger in Australia with a USA<--> Aust socket converter? I'm scared of frying the phone since the USA uses 110 volts and we use 240.

4. Interestingly, when I go to MacTalk in Safari on the iPhone, and click in the "username" box, Safari crashes and I end up back at the springboard. Is this happening to anyone else?

5. Is it okay to use "Airplane mode" with a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone? I can't imagine why not, but I'm still a little nervous doing anything on this phone just yet.

Umm.. i think that's all... apologies..

1. Not that I'm aware of

2. press the suggested word and it will use the one you've typed

3. It will work fine, the adapter will work for any power

4. Don't know whats going on there

5. Yeah, should be fine, never read about any problems using it

Have fun with it!

Sure is, Settings --> General --> Passcode Lock. Show SMS Preview, toggle it to OFF.

EDIT: Beaten!

Thats Awesome, I didn't realise they updated this from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1

Edit: Does this still work if I have Passcode lock set to 'Off' ?

I'm pretty sure 1.0.2 also had this feature.

So that's what SMS preview does

(self-explanatory haha).
I always assumed that since it is under Passlock, it would be a security feature, so I turned it off (meaning don't show any previews) - just in case someone pinches my phone and tries to unlock the screen/SIM

I have no idea why Apple thought that you would only want to turn off SMS previews if you have a code on. I think that's a bit weird.

PS - can someone confirm they have used the wall charger for the iPhone?

I have bought the US-Aust converter and the little USB wall charger thing says it supports up to 240 volts but I really, really don't want to turn my phone into a nice toasty iPopTart.

I have used 2 of them no with problems I didn't use a converter though I pulled the plug of the end and put the plug off of my iPod charger on it.

Thanks, I can confirm that mine has worked perfectly.

Has anyone in Brisbane noticed that the Weather.app on iPhone always says "Update failed" for Brisbane weather, but if you put any other city in, it works?

+1

The charger is a switchmode power supply that operates on voltages from around 110v to 250/260v so that they are cheaper to make for worldwide shipping. apple simply puts different plugs or "Duckheads" in the box, and they are all interchangeable with other apple products, so I used a spare from my macbookpro.
