1.1.2 fixes voicemail notification issue

OK guys, 1.1.2 has been confirmed to fix the issue with Flash SMS messages not being processed properly by the phone, meaning that some networks' voicemail notifications, and other messages such as bank SMSs which weren't being received on 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 will now work.

So sit tight, the 1.1.2 jailbreak has already been completed, and I believe that a 1.1.2 unlock has also been created but they're working on an easy way to "hack"tivate it for non-AT&T/O2 users currently.

Sounds like there is also a little more security built into the update as some users are reporting that when using a different SIM card, the phone/SMS apps will close immediately after opening, but when they switch back to a valid iTunes-activated SIM they work again. This happens apparently even when a TurboSIM is used as a proxy, so there may be some more work to be done before we can use this update successfully in Australia (without global roaming from AT&T or O2 - no thanks!)

Here's a hackint0sh link discussing the new 1.1.2 voicemails coming through - Snowbird is the man:

Fair enough. Snowbird is very trustworthy though, he's been working on this issue for months now and had even begun a project with another member to rewrite parts of the CommCenter to fix the problem.

If he says that he's now trashing that project and happily receiving Flash SMSs under 1.1.2 then that's good enough for me

I hope this brings stability to the iPhone.
I've got an exam in about 2 hours, and just had a mini freakout.

Took my iPhone out of my pocket and it was completely frozen. Didn't respond to anything (screen was on the "slide to unlock" screen, but was stuck on that screen). Didn't respond to my sleep/wake, home button, or ringer switch. I wanted to turn off the ringer and/or turn off the phone completely - in case it rings during the exam.

Finally managed to reboot it/it rebooted itself, after about 7 minutes! Scared the crap out of me. 1.0.2. never did this to me... (I'm on 1.1.1). Frozen twice in the time I've had it on 1.1.1.

Hey ricochet

Any indication when the full upgrade instructions might be available?

Do you think we can keep using the *#307# process?

Thanks

Tony

Here's some clarifications. The phone/SMS apps closing immediately after opening has been narrowed down to localisation issues and can be fixed by editing some region-related files for your carrier - very good

Also, a couple of hacked "lockdownd" files have been created for 1.1.2 - basically this is a file you can copy onto your iPhone and it will fake-activate it for you - also very good

Tony - the *#307# process apparently does still work, but it's not much help because under 1.1.2 the safari TIFF exploit is closed so you can't just visit jailbreakme.com anymore.

I'll provide some links below for those interested in reading more, I'd suggest not attempting it yet unless you're VERY comfortable fiddling around via terminal/SSH to your phone and know how to fully recover yourself back to 1.1.1 if things go wrong! I'm sure a more user-friendly release will come out in the near future that will automate more of this process and combine the activation/jailbreak and unlock into one easier step.

I haven't upgraded mine yet, but plan to in the next couple of days and can give better guidance once I've been through it then.

  • A nice guide to jailbreaking can be found here (requires mac, but I guess most people here will have that!): http://www.iphonealley.com/news/unof...k-instructions
  • Link to the 1.1.2 lockdownd file which you can place in usr/libexec/ during the jailbreak to hactivate it: http://luccom.de/iphone/lockdownd.zip
  • Info on the localisation issue and editing files to get your phone/sms apps working (paste to address bar and remove spaces - they don't like direct links): http://c o d e . g o o g l e . c o m/p/iphone-elite/wiki/fix_crashing_phone_sms_apps

Hey Ricochet

Cant wait for your report. I would love to upgrade - but I dont have a MAC - so it needs to be windows based or without a computer like the *#307& process.

Thanks

Hey Anarchron, great to see you have it up and running and the voicemail messages are coming through I've been wanting that feature working for so long now!

Did you have any issues with the update and are you running it hacked with Anysim/IPSF or a TurboSIM solution?

Yes please.....there are now two reasons to upgrade! This and easy way of putting ringtones back on!

Last I heard the jailbreak/unlock couldnt be used becasue you needed an iTunes activated phone, s there was no way to activate yet.

Please post a method with full details of what you were running before etc. if you have it!
