Exclamation Warning iPhone

I want to bring to all iPhone users attention in the next 24 hours or so the possibility of new firmware 1.1.2.

DO NOT UP GRADE.

Make sure iTunes is set to not automatically get new firmware. This is done by the preference tab & iPhone preference pane.

Only after the all clear and new tools that are stable should anyone upgrade to FW 1.1.2

I dont expect anyone will be able to upgrade safely for about a month after FW 1.1.2 is available.

I have not included touch folks because I don't have a touch. But feel this also should be the case for them also.

I should also tell you FW & Restore does not completly remove all the old software. Some users are finding apps like custom desk top still remain & casue problems down the track. So always be carefull untill Apple release the SDK installing anything.

From a 'Touch user:

The iTunes preference appears as "Synching", and you should SELECT the checkbox "Disable automatic syncing...."

Thanks W9cae - warning noted.

A little OT, did the recent iTunes update have any negative impact on unlocked iPhones?

No the latest iTuens 7.5 is fine for unlocked phones. I will add it did break independence. But if you have activated & unlocked using the directions I posted you have no need for independence.

iTunes - preferences - syncing
check the box "disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods"

When iPhone docked
iTunes - iPhone - summary
uncheck the box automatically sync when this iPhone is connected

both these I guess

I wonder if it would be a good idea to uninstall all additional software and get the phone back to its native state, as it were, prior to any attempt at upgrading?

No real need, the phone is wiped and the software reinstalled from scratch when you do a restore.

Btw...I don't think that disabling syncing makes any difference. iTunes will still check for updates and notify you of the update, you always have the opportunity to say no.

I ran the 1.1.2 update on my Touch for the hell of it. I had no problems upgrading it and it seems to be running fine.

If you want the new iTouch firmare and cant wait for the iTunes updater to get it then down load it from here: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....b_Restore.ipsw

Then, when your iPod is connected to iTunes, hold down the option key when you click the restore button - it will then let you select the file to download to the iPod. This did erase everything on my ipod, but after the firmware update, it ran a restore settings and re-snc'd ok. I like the add calendar entry - very noice !

Cheers.

I want to correct a few folks FW restore & upgrade does not remove all old code like in the past. Folks in the know are finding files from 3 party applications still on iPhones after reflash. So you are wise to put you phone as close to stock as possible before doing any FW change. Maybe at some future point we will have a tool that can wipe your phone clean. Also a reboot of the phone is wise when installing & removing any 3rd party application.
