Okay, after a search for my sync problem, I found this thread, and these instructions. Glad to see they worked for some, but they are not working for me, so I'm looking for others with similar experience or alternative solutions.
I have had the same problem syncing my iPhone ever since I got it, which means I've had it through 1.0.2, 1.1.1 and now 1.1.2. I'm trying to sync through iTunes on an iBook G4 running OS X version 10.4.11.
If I check the boxes for "replace information on this iPhone" during next sync, it will do that fine almost 100% of the time. But if I do a normal sync, I drop to a success rate of about 10%.
When I try, it shows the "Sync in Progress" screen. After about 2 mins, the light running across the slider freezes (often preceded by a couple of jumpy passes). Then a little progress wheel appears in the middle of the big green battery icon, and then that freezes. Then the phone gives a blip sound. Then after pausing a bit longer, it reboots itself, and the information has not been synced in either direction.
I've tried the suggestions above, resetting the sync history, then doing a "replace information on this iPhone" run first, and then adding a new contact and a new calendar entry on each of the Mac and the iPhone and trying a normal sync. The problem is still there.
If I ask it to sync just the address book or just the calendar, the success rate improves, but it is still not consistent. If I ask it to do both at once, it is more consistently bad, although it works occasionally.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Reading the posts here, it looks like some people are using iSync directly, but I don't know how to get it to recognise the iPhone, so I haven't tried that.
I was just putting up with working around it using the "replace information" sync, but now a friend has told me he is having the same problem, so I know it is not just me.
Thanks for any help that comes.
Nathan
