iPhone 'Negative Black' Screen

Hi guys,

I just discovered that my 1 month old iPhone has the so called dreaded Negative Black screen issue.

I know that this is a bit of a stretch, but would it be possible to somehow obtain a warranty replacement either by me sending it Apple in Australia or sending it back to Apple in the US, then getting them to ship the replacement to a mate's address in New York?

Cheers

I'd say you'd need someone in the US to sort that out for you.

If it has been hacked, or has no at&t contract, they will not honour the warranty.

I'd say it's pretty hard to detect whether it has been hacked, especially since I used Iphonesimfree which does give the defective 00499 imei number.

With at&t contract....yeah that's a sticky issue atm for me.

If you have someone in the US, then it's worth a shot.

I'd say you'd have zero chance in aus though.

Is it possible to get the iPhone serviced without having to go through an Apple store i.e. straight to Apple? I was thinking of going down that route where I can sort of get a service ticket number, mail my iPhone to their repair centre in the US and then get them to post the new one back to my mate in the US who will post it back to me in Aus.

ah bugger, thanks for the reply anyway guys.

on a side note, do you think Apple will honour current iPhone warranties when they bring out the iPhone in Australia next year? Since I'm already on Telstra, that shouldn't be an issue in the future should my warranty be valid till then.

So let me get this straight... you can't get a *hardware* problem fixed by the manufacturer if it isn't being used under a contract to be used on a particular service!?! (The hardware manufacturer not being one with the phone plan company) That's like saying that if you run OSX86 on your beige box and the beige box breaks down that you can't get that fixed, or if you mooned your isight camera and that somehow broke down you can't get that fixed...

I suppose the most comparable argument would be if you installed a pirate copy of OSX Server on your Mac that you didn't pay for, and the screen broke in a non-externally-physically-damaged way, wouldn't Apple still have to fix the screen? Never minding what you used your Notebook Mac, or Cinema Display for?

Sorry if this isn't very helpful but I am in a bit of disbelief here...

What if you restored to 'proper' settings and claim that you're lazy and haven't got round to getting a contract so you can use it properly?

By the way, I'll try and get an image comparison of the "negative black" issue when I can get hold of a digital camera.

just a warning to the guys out there, I got a week 39 which still has the problem, so i doubt that apple has truly resolved the issue.

I thought you didn't have the option of going prepaid on the iPhone (ie legally, in the US) - had to be a contract with AT&T.

As to the question... I'd say your only hope for repair is if you pay for it yourself...

When I bought my TAM in 1998 (via a Beverly Hills reseller, as they were never sold in AU), I contacted Apple Aust to see where they stood on the issue of repairs IF it went bad (particularly regarding the "buzz" problem). They told me I'd have to take it to my local Apple dealer and pay then for any repairs.

Best way to get a defective hacked iPhone fixed is give it a good zap of household current. Then take it into Apple all charred black. Guarantee over the counter swap out.

In the past, I thought Apple would simply replace older iPods with whatever model was at hand?
