M8 not trying to be rude but if this is confusing you playing hack the iPhone is not a game you should be in.

You need to read all the posts, but seeing as you have an unlocked FW 1.0.2 phone your first going to have to virgenize it. Unless it was unlocked with anySIM 1.1 or iPhonesimfree. You would be best to contact who supplied the phone unlocked & find out what they used to unlock it.

There is allot of features on FW 1.1.1 that FW 1.0.2 does not have. You might as well get used to FW upgrades as they will be coming about every six weeks.

If it's on 1.0.2, and unlocked, and you're not comfortable with the command line/tools, then leave well enough alone.

1.1.1 is not required by any means (or 1.1.2, eventually).

Just got a new iphone sent over by a friend. I tried the method menioned in this tutorial but nothing happened when i click on appsnap. Neways later found out that the firmaware on this iphone is still 1.0.2.
Now i want to know, what is the best way to activate this phone....get to 1.1.1 and if yes how or use independence method as metioned here :

amzy if your phone is FW 1.0.2 then activate with indepence & then unlock with anySIM 1.1 very simple or you can just upgrade to FW 1.1.1 and do the appsnapp process which only works for FW 1.1.1

FW 1.0.2 independence is the best option on a mac.

If i were to upgrade to 1.1.1 then what's the best process? i tried to connect with itunes and i just get the AT&T activation screen....how do iSHIT+RESTORE? also considering that i.1.2 is out how do i get the 1.1.1 firmaware without the iternet connection. When i log of itunes gives a network error when i click on the iphone logo in itunes.

I will start by saying i don't want to sound like a winy little noob that doesnt know anything unlocking divices and want this handed to him, thats not me.

Although i was not a huge apple man untill i heard of the iphone and saw that it was hackable.. like anything else, hence this being my first post on this forum

Basicaly i purchased a seemingly unlocked iphone from ebay, when it was recieved by me i noticed not only was it not unlocked but it was in chinese too i managed to change all that but now before me is the task of getting it unlocked.

Now i have done many changes to my psp without fail, but this seems a little more risky.

i have read through the forum with a degree of understanding, but i would like to know weather the tutorial at the start can still be followed word by word i think i could do that well enough?

could some assistance be offered?

Don't go with the tute at the beginning of this thread. It would probably still work, but it is now obsolete and would only get your phone going with firmware that is now three generations out of date. There are newer and easier ways.

Go to this thread and follow the tute there. It will take you straight to the latest firmware (1.1.4) and should get you going without much difficulty.
