 iPhone Owners bother with case?

Just got a Tuffwrap for mine and it arrived yesterday. I somehow ended up with a 3mm scratch on my screen just over where the call button sits in the springboard. It annoys me everytime I see it but it doesn't affect operation obviously. I toyed with the idea of Brasso'ing it out but thankfully read the warnings first. Brasso does a fantastic job on the shiny metal edging around the glass though!

The main reason I wanted a case was because I do value it particularly since it would be hard to replace if it was broken given the new iPhones and their new baseband bootloader shenanigans. Scratches just piss me off but if the case somehow protects it against a fatal fall or something then I'm all for it.

The other reason I wanted a case is kind of against the whole aesthetics of it. The iPhone's unique design lends itself to be easily recognised by the public. I've already had a few people notice it and recognise it. By having a case around it it just looks like some slim smartphone or something from a distance and not so attractive to would-be theives. Simple as that.

Either way - theft or fatal damage - at the moment would mean I'd have to go back to a normal phone until Apple start selling iPhones down under, since getting a replacement with 1.1.1 firmware would be difficult and harder to do as time progresses. I'ld rather that didn't happen. Not to mention, neither my mobile insurance nor my contents insurance would cover it (the former because Optus think I have a Motorola, the latter because it's a mobile phone and contents insurance does not cover phones. :-(

Which reminds me I might as well cancel my mobile insurance now

Yeah how resiliant is the screen? Like can it deal with keys etching in your pocket or does just looking at it scratch it?

It is quite resilient actually, google something like iphone scratch test and they actually try and scratch it with keys and nothing happens =/

I have found the iPhone to be really resilient -- both the glass screen and back are very good and handle normal use without scratching at all.

I did get a sleeve for it, an Incipio Orion, which is great -- more to protect it if I dropped it.

I'm now awaiting the arrival of two cases (couldnt decide which to get so I got both) they are both marware, one is the CEO sleeve (leather, and a belt clip) and the other is a sportsuit (not sure what its made of, also has a belt clip and a little pocket for your earphones). I hope they will arrive within a couple of weeks now, there's a long delay on shipments, sold out in the US really quick

How about the chrome part of the iphone is it easy to remove the scratches from the chrome part, otherwise cosmetically the iphone is fine without a case..

As I said above the chrome part is repairable if you carefully rub some brasso on it - it's the same as the back of the normal iPod. Be careful not to rub the brasso into the glass on the front.

IMHO the chrome part is scratch central - I left my iPhone in my pocket for an hour and got 3-4 big scuff marks on the chrome (and we all know how much scratches piss me off!)

Why throw it in a pocket with keys and coins? I'm very, very anal about stuff like that! My old SE phone was never in the same pocket as anything else... iPhone is no different!

I got the iPhone full body skin from Best Skins Ever:
http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet...dy-Skin/Detail

All the parts fit like a glove, it makes it far less slippery but to the naked eye you can barely even notice that it's there. The adhesion is top notch and after about 3 weeks there's no build-up of dust or grit getting under the edges. I've carried it around in my pocket with other things, no marks at all.

Very happy with it So cheap too, it was like $11AU including shipping from the US I think
