Question Help needed? 1.1.1 iphone

I need some help!

I just bought an iphone, I suppose the firmware is 1.1.1 (I am not sure how i can verify).
I started to follow http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...firmware_1.0.2. I am having some issues with apptapp. After searching in forums i read that upgrading itunes and apptapp and rebooting might fix the issues (hanging on the "this will take 2-3 minutes, please be patient." screen).

Now my question is... what should be the steps to be able to fully use the phone with any provider?
What guides I should follow?
I started to downgrade, this meanse I am flashing from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2. What is the difference with downgrading the baseband?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It sounds like you ran the AppTap installer on a 1.1.1 firmware which is a big no-no.

I did the same thing, jumped to that conclusion and my heart sunk as hours of work had gone.

You dont need to downgrade 1.1.1 anymore if this is a brand new, sealed virgin unit.

First thing I would do is connect to iTunes and restore the phone to 1.1.1.

Then follow the guide in Independance to activate and jailbreak it and install SSH.

http://code.google.com/p/independence/

You will then need to install AnySim 1.1

http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/10/1...or-installing/

Following that, you would like custom apps, you will need to MANUALLY install AppTapp onto your iPhone and then upgrade to the latest 3.0b4 Beta from the Installer icon on your iPhone.

http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/10/1...en-111-iphone/

The is customization, phone number formats, caller ID, EDGE settings etc.

The most important thing is THE WILL ONLY BE SUCCESSFUL IF THIS IS A VIRGIN PHONE.

Hope this helps.

I am not that lucky. I bought an iPhone with 1.1.1 and downgrade it to 1.0.2 by following instructions from instructions here
( http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...1_to_1.0.2_OSX ) from one to seventeen. However, after using anySIM 1.02 to unlock, although anySIM says unlock successful but I still cannot get mobile service. The worst thing is that after I reboot, my WiFi is gone! Any ideas, thanks a lot. I have spent 4 hours on this thing tonight :-(

@happyfeet

You shouldn't have used AnySIM 1.0.2. The latest 1.1 version does not 'corrupt' your seczone in the same way the 1.0.2 version does.

This is not necessarily related to losing radio function (wi-fi+phone.) However to solve both issues, it may be wise to 're-virginise.' This will restore your seczone, and should have the added side-effect of restoring your radio.

Do some reading at hackint0sh. many people have had the same issues as you (assuming your baseband firmware was successfully downgraded to version 3, and you didn't apply the AnySIM unlock to the version 4 baseband.)

Edge, thanks a lot for your reply.
I actually worked how to get wifi back accidentally. Luckily, I put both unlock and anysim into my iPhone when I have wifi. After Anysim 1.0.2 breaks my wifi and I run unlock in the act of desperation. Although Unlock still cannot get my SIM card working (not sure it is because of the SIM card I am using, I am traveling in Beijing and using the prepaid SIM card offered by China Mobile), my wifi seems to be back online now :-)

Edge, could you please let me know how to "re-virginise" my phone and where to download anysim 1.1.1 (a google search seems to be a red herring for me). Thanks again for your reply.

Does anybody else experience very low volume on their 1.1.1 iPhone?
The volume comes out of the earpiece speaker and not the bottom speaker??

edit
apparently this might be related to anySIM unlocking 1.1.1 and the speaker going DEAD!
fixed it by plugging headphones in and taking it out again. how strange...

Out of the Box...then???

I'm a little confused - I'm about to receive my iPhone, from the US and unlocked to 1.1.1

all well and good, but reading through these forums, I'm a little anxious about setting up the phone when it arrives (i'm with Telstra, not that I can see any issues there)

Some posts talk about downgrading to 1.02 to "make the phone work"

Am I correct in assuming that when the phone arrives, I pull it out of the box and just set it up as a "normal" new device, or by doing so will I "brick" it?

Sorry if this sounds kind of dumb, but I thought ask now before I create a problem for which I will need MORE help!

My first post here, found the site today - it's Great!!

If it is already 1.1.1 and unlocked, just insert your sim and off you go. No need to do anything else.

Quick note: You must have a paperclip (unfolded) to be able to remove the AT&T SIM (if there is one in there, if it hasn't been removed already) to be able to insert your new SIM, as the paperclip ejects the SIM tray.
