iPhone --> Brick. How easy?

How easy would it be for Apple to irreversibly brick an iPhone?

I'm still musing over getting a couple and don't really have a handle on how easy it would be for Apple to make my new expensive purchases doorstops for evermore...

Any thoughts??

Simple answer: they can't. There's a hack for the current firmware and they can't force you to upgrade. It's as simple as that.

Could it be done though? Irreversibly?

Just thinking outside the box... as in, if someone (me) does something stoopid like update the firmware could it be stuffed for good?

I don't think it could ever be done irreversibly.

Software is software... and it can be hacked, restored and generally messed with).
Hardware is hardware... and it usually can't be broken by software, unless built with that in mind (which would be very nasty and probably result in a class action suit).

Potentially, yes. So don't do anything stoopid.

Apple can only Brick an iPhone if they can get the software to overload and melt the processor or blow some other part of the hardware.

Either that or they'd send someone round to drive a geology pick through it.

So if neither of those things happen... you should be safe.

As long as Apple is restricting the iPhone and locking them...there will be hackers fighting their every move, beating activation, sim locks and bricked phones....

Go for it!
