No no accessory. I don't know whether you would really want that anyway as you'll sap even more life out of your phone. I am not a big fan of all in one super duper smartphoones because in reality, all you end up doing is sapping life out of your phone and they never function with any one feature that well. This is coming from a guy who sells this stuff and has used all the super duper models such as the HTC TyTn II. I am much happier with my iPhone than I have ever been with the other smartphones.

Works for me but is useless - i e It positions me at the nearest mobile phone tower, which could literally be hundreds of metres away. We don't have the proper triangulation necessary for this to work in Australia.

My personal preference is for the TomTom units. I find the software much easier to use - more "apple like". Also there is more customisation - eg you can cusomise the navigation voices. AND there is mac software to sync updates, new voices, POI data etc. It also has the bluetooth speakerphone, and on top of that you can use it to connect your ipod to your stereo, or play through the unit and navigate using the TomTom screen.

In short, kicks ass over the Navman IMO.

Not to derail the thread, but has anyone tried the GPS on the Nokia N95? Might be the only reason I don't get an iPhone - I really want GPS, but can't afford TomTom + iPhone.

Yes, I cant seem to ever get it to actually tell me where to go it always just shows me and it tries to connect to the net all the time but I know ADL pretty well so the only time i need it is when im "roaming" so it costs me to get the maps lol.

I have a navman nuvi which i use prefer that as well because if you get a phone call when you are using MAPS (N95) it closing the app.

I used the N95 GPS a number of times pre-iPhone, mainly navigating around Brisbane / Noosa in a rental car. It worked brilliantly when in the city (ie when it had mobile coverage to update maps), but on the drive to Noosa there was a patch of highway where there was no Telstra mobile coverage, and the GPS was reduced to a big white screen and a speedo reading until we next reached mobile coverage and the N95 could download the map for our GPS location.

The same issue seems to plague all mobile-phone based GPS devices that don't store map data locally (I've owned both the N95 and HP iPaq 6515) - once you're out of mobile range you lose navigation, and if you make a wrong turn it can take ages to re-route you because it has to download the maps first.

I've since purchased TomTom Go 710s for our cars without built-in GPS, and they work brilliantly.
