Could AU Iphone go with Vodafone?

Just a guess

Could Apple AU Iphone go with Vodafone?

Went to Myer sydney and next to the 'new' apple store within, VODAFONE IS RIGHT NEXT TO IT. USING ALL APPLE EQUIPMENTS, imac and so on...

NOW IS THAT A HINT OR NOT.

So... Apple + Vodaphone because of their proximity?

I do believe those straws are just out of reach...

The Myers in Melbourne has the same setup. I don't think this would have anything to do with Apple's prospective carrier though.

Unlikely, but not because of the music store. After all, Telstra has BigPond Music ...

I just thought it will be funny any other way.

Having a vodafone store right next to an apple one. And if apple choose telstra as their carrier... rofl.

That makes perfect business sense does it?

And the fact that they JUST set this up do you think they will pull it a part in a few months time?

I might be wrong. As I said. its a guess.

Yeah, I tend to agree. I just don't think Voda has the runs on the board to get the iPhone guernsey.

(Even though I would love it if they did).

I have noticed that a lot of Vodafone stores are using the new iMacs...

Connection? ... I don't know... But Doesn't Apple Australia still prefer Optus?

Been much discussion about this at the office.

There is a few factors to consider.

Apple wish to release in Japan next year. To do so they need a HSDPA capable iPhone. It's been stated that we'll be sometime after Japan to get our iPhone.

EDGE's days in Australia are numbered, with most providers at least looking at if not rolling out HSDPA.

Telstra has the biggest HSDPA and EDGE footprint of any network in Australia.

Apple seem to require unlimited data plans to be bundled with iPhone services. I think Telstra would rather eat glass. In a cone.

So there are all these conflicting things Apple has to deal with coming into Australia.

If they want to go with the carrier with the best network, no matter what, then it has to be Telstra's Next-G network. That would require Telstra to either eat crow and offer an unlimited data plan (unlikely, they make too much cash off the excess fees) or Apple to back down and allow Telstra to bundle with a generous but limited data plan. (more likely?)

If Apple don't care about coverage, and lets face it, AT&T Cingular hasn't got the best coverage, then they might go with another carrier. The other carriers have HSDPA but mostly only covering the major cities, falling back to EDGE or GSM outside of the cities. With really bad coverage in the bush.

Me, I'm hoping they swallow the bitter pill and go with Telstra, if only because I want my phone to work almost everywhere in Australia, and I want it to be HSDPA all the way. Telstra have committed fully to their Next-G network, and it will be 100% HSDPA in a few years time. The other networks just don't have the cahones.
