Firmware 1.1.1 maybe cracked
Seems the folks over at Hackentosh have made head way today. They have found a hole in firmware 1.1.1 with Safari & a tiff. They were able to run a tiff with executable code. So hopefully a new unlock will be avail soon.

I'm thinking there will be a major update to coincide with Leopard. I'm just hoping the update won't be required in order to use iPhone with Leopard.

No matter what method used Apple is going to plug the hole with a software update. There is already talk of folks making a custom hacked firmware so we can get the updates but not have the cat & mouse game.

When the hacks use bugs in software of course they will be broken. Not necessarily on purpose but just as a result of fixing the bugs. If someone creates a hack that doesnt use a software bug then there may be a chance apple wont break it.

Apple are breaking things that dont use bugs. iToner is a prime example!

Same with the PSP modders, any exploit is a good exploit to get started with.
We still don't have a way to activate a 1.1.1 so only people with AT&T sims active will work.

Allot of PSP modders have come over to help with the freeing of iPhone. And we all know what sort of pickle Sony got into with those folks.

I think this is more important to the touch guys than anyone, they've been working at it for ages.

nice! they'll use the exploit to gain access to the filesystem and also get the seczone. with those, they can build a new jailbrake solution

Damn straight! If Apple wont fix the iPod's calendar then we can always try squeezing the iPhone's onto it.
Not to mention the "missing" apps.

This is good news....god speed hackers
I don't see why the hackers cant just realease hacks which add the same features as the update (or just as many)...louder volume and double tap spacebar for example...or is this not possible for people other than apple?
Fingers crossed that an update wont be needed to get the iPhone to work with Leopard...I don't think apple would do that but then again they are being very hard liners...no doubt if that route was taken a hack would be found very quickly...
Interesting times...

You still won't be able to sync it without tricking iTunes into thinking you have an iPhone.
