iPhone headphone adapter
Has anyone managed to find an adapter for the iPhone's headphone socket in Australia? iLounge lists six different products, but it doesn't seem like any of them are being sold here. No luck with finding an alternative at Dick Smith, either.
I don't want to have to give up my Sennheiser CX300s (or use the crappy Apple earbuds) - has anyone found an alternative?

It's a 3.5 mm jack but it is recessed so it doesn't fit most headphones (it fits all the Apple ones though
I got the Belkin adaptor from the Apple Store

US or AU? It looks fairly rigid - have you had any trouble with it not being flexible enough?

From the American Store. It's plenty flexible. The Griffin ones probably looks better, if you can get my hands on it for a reasonable shipping cost.

I took to my headphones with a knife. Only needed to remove about 2mm for the jack to fit. It's all metal underneath.
That being said. Your mileage may vary.

well if you're game a compromise would be to buy this:
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView...=&SUBCATID=525
if it doesn't fit, you could cut this with a hobby knife to fit, then you won't wreck your headphones, at worst you'll kill the adaptor
By the way I too have successfully cut my headphone plug to fit the iphone....
oh and by the way the adaptor from jaycar is only $3.50!

Alas the crappy apple earbuds are the only alternative at the moment if you want a mic and switch. Shure have something available in the US Apple Store which has a mic and a controlller for iPod, which you can plug your existing headphones into... but the mic, or yards of your headset cable, is going to be waving about in the breeze somewhere near your hip or pocket depending on where your iphone is located so I am not yet convinced its a great option.
Sooner or later, Griffin et al will develop different headphones just for this.

I just got the Belkin Headphone Adaptor in the mail today. Got it from Expansys Australia. Delivered in Melbourne CBD by next day.
Although it looks really stiff it is actually quite flexible in the thinner middle part. I took the dog for a walk and used it tonight and while I did notice it in my pocket, it wasn't annoying.
$22 or something like that delivered which is a bit much for an adaptor but works great.

I got an adapter for my CX-300's from ebay for like $5 delivered, works fine
Tested the audio quality on my iPod classic and it doesn't noticeably degrade the sound

I've bought 2 adaptors from eBay. One is just the straight headphone adaptor (looks like the Belkin pictured above), the other is also a phone answering/talking thingy. Each cost about $5 delivered.
I'm no audiofile, but sound seems fine - I mainly listen to podcasts and have been watching some TV episodes.
The problem with the phone answering/talking thingy is that it makes the total cable length too long, so for public transport I use the adaptor and just take it out for a phone call.

Yeah I looked at ones that had the speaker in them as well. But I only use hands free in the car and I rarely need to do that. So I figured I'd just leave the shit ones that came with it in the car.

i took to my JVC earphones with a knife. (just happen to have one in the car..... as well as every other tool imagineable)
i also took to my AUX connector with it. my JVC's still have great sound quality and fit VERY firmly (probably didnt QUITE take enough off)
the aux connector had a huge amount of excess plastic on it.
